Dunno what England are doing with Eoin Morgan. Crap FC stats despite playing his cricket in the second division of the County Championship. Crap List A stats despite playing at the Home of Batting. He did absolutely nothing for Ireland whether he was playing against a good attack or not.

The fourth best Irish batsman, if he's lucky. He's been picked because he bats with a very slightly unusual technique, and because England prefer to pick players from other countries.

Coming to you live from the Members' Guests Stand at Lord's. Opulent enough to make me desire entry to the bacon and egg club itself, but not so much so that it glosses over England's awfulness.

Two key points so far. One, Owais Shah is a spanner. Two, Asad Rauf was sat in front of me and Morris, and he's lost his mullet.

Who would have thought that a player who never scored any runs for Ireland at Associate level and never scored any runs for Middlesex at a particularly low first-class level wouldn't score any runs for England either.

England still slightly in front, English pessimisim aside.
It's not so much pessimism, it's that all we'll do if we win this is paper over the cracks of what is a pathetically poor batting line-up, as has been said in this thread would be better for our develoment in this form if we got royally hammered in these matches, that may make them get rid of some of the deadwood.

The only reason these matches have been close, and I'm not so sure this one will be now, is that your fairly ****e too.

Don't think England's bottom five failed to score 115 in a single innings during the Ashes, and they probably managed it at over 5 an over too.

Nice revisionism.

Only failures for Ireland were on slow, low wickets in the West Indies and in Bangladesh. Aside from that, he was infinitely their best batsman in ODI and first class associate cricket.

Win papers over our cracks as well, tbf.

Bearing in mind that his highest score against a test-playing team (in 16 innings) is 37* against the West Indies, and his overall average is 35 with an especially dour strike rate of 71, you have to question what exactly England saw in him.

He's definitely not as good as Niall O'Brien or Ed Joyce, and I don't think he's as good as William Porterfield either. Kevin O'Brien might well be a better bet too when he's not so out of nick. Outbatted him very comfortably in the WC qualifiers, last time they played together.
