Brought in for the Ireland ODI, got a duck, sent back to Warwickshire and got a 93.I know Pietersen & Flintoff are injured, but surely England have some better oneday batting options out there somewhere.
What about that other South African dude Trott who did so well in the Tests?
So, anyone looking forwards to the start of the series on Sunday?
Nah, missed the game, heard it was decent tbf, nice for the Aussies to experience being ahead in something after being in the country for about 7 months
To be fair there was quite a lot of "clarke is ghey" from your lot that ran and ran. Let's face it, it was a poor quality game and lot's of scope for whining.FMD, you English sure know how to whinge don't you. 5 pages of exactly the same thing "FFS etc."
Johnners & Ferguson (y)
Don't really get what was so poor-quality about it. The bowling was perfectly good, with some really excellent performances thrown in, and the pitch made scoring runs very difficult. It was a bit scrappy and didn't look very pretty but I don't think it was a case of two teams playing very badly. Ravi Bopara and Michael Clarke have just kinda stank up the joint I suppose. To be fair there was quite a lot of "clarke is ghey" from your lot that ran and ran. About a year or two ago Clarke was either the highest or second highest batsman in terms of making runs on the highest percentage of balls in ODI worldwide.I'm pretty flummoxed by Clarke's quite incredible decline at one day cricket, it's not often you see a good ODI batsmen get quite this bad, they usually get better and better, even more amazing considering his test form. Surely he's not stuck in test mode? Has he just cut out a lot of shots from his repertoire? Has he just become a lot more conservative in his approach? I'm actually considering watching some old footage or something. The way he was bogged down by the spinners today, working them around in the middle overs used to be his specialty, it's like he's a completely different player over the last 2 years or so.
Ferguson's looking more and more impressive, surprised at his very moderate FC stats. Reminds me a little of Bevan.
Rashid was good, was better with the bat than I expected. I'm still not entirely convinced with Luke Wright, he plays the shots of a power player, and in fairness it seems to come off, but he doesn't really have the physique to be that kind of player, I do get the impression that he tries to force the pace a bit too much sometimes and that if he played a bit more to his own tempo he'd score more heavily. Prior ain't a no.3, Shah would be better suited to that role in KP's absence.
Was 'bout 15 posts of it, rest was Scaly/Pizzorno/Zaremba ffs'ingTo be fair there was quite a lot of "clarke is ghey" from your lot that ran and ran. Let's face it, it was a poor quality game and lot's of scope for whining.
Davies, Bopara, Pietersen and Trott should be England's top 4 in 50 and 20 over cricket for the next few years IMO.So you're saying the below batting line-up wouldn't be stronger than the one we've got out tonight? =/ I think it's undoubtedly stronger.
Steve Davies
Ravi Bopara
Ed Joyce
Jonathan Trott
Owais Shah
Paul Collingwood
Luke Wright
I think these days he bats with too much of fear of failure, he was dropped from the test side because his technique and shot selections weren't considered good enough at that time, but ever since he returned to test cricket with a "tighter technique", his limited overs game has been on the decline.About a year or two ago Clarke was either the highest or second highest batsman in terms of making runs on the highest percentage of balls in ODI worldwide.
So annoying watching him hit it straight to the bowler so often, because if he gets past the bowler it'll only be a single anyways.
I don't there is much wrong with leaving your batting power-play to be used in the last 10 overs when chasing a target if you power hitters at the crease to use them, think England were slightly unlucky yesterday, lots of there batsmen got out in unusual ways, and I think that led to them losing momentum at crucial times. Why do teams leave themselves so much to do in the last 5-7 overs?
I think the power-play is making them think they can just let things cruise from overs 15-45, and then somehow score 80 off the last 5 overs.
Like England today were chasing a decent, but not massive score.
But they just didn't time things well enough and gave themselves too much to do at the end.
