What do AUS think about George Bailey's chances of becoming test match material in the future?. I really liked what i saw of him in the IPL this year.
Given the other guys we have available, no chance at all in the short to intermediate future.

Because of the dearth of good spinners the cricket australia cup next year, will make it mandatory each team plays a spinner,

Haha, look out for specialist number 7 batsman/occasional spinners getting a game.

It's an interesting idea I guess.

The only fly in that oinment is that the problem has its roots at grade level. Forcing state second XI's to play a spinner is a bit silly, for mine.

Especially if you are queensland, tasmania and west australia the cupboard is really empty.
Western Australia have Mangan and Hansberry, as well as Heal. Thought Queensland had a couple of young spinners in their ranks.

Personally, I think that too much tinkering with the Cricket Australia Cup only results in a lessening of the standard, and that means that players aren't as well prepared for the rigours of FC cricket. These age restrictions are over the top, and pretty much every side has been playing a spinnner anyway.

How do they actually define "a spinner" though? Couldn't teams just nominate a batsman who rolls out part-time darts as their spinner, bowl him for one over just before drinks and be done with it?

Not keen on the CA Cup spinner idea.

If a young spinner cannot force his way into State 2nd XI cricket via strong club performances, what hope does he really have at the next level?

Token effort from Cricket Australia. Will take more thought out plans to unearth a quality spinner.

Definitely could become a chance if he was playing for N.S.W. or Victoria. The only way Tasmanian batsmen get a chance is if they plunder attacks all around the country and average 70. He's more likely a OD prospect atm.
True. Big reason why Cox never played a test, although the competition was very fierce.

He's up there, but to be honest behind quite a few middle order bats.

Voges, Ferguson from the younger bunch are ahead and I think Cameron White too.

Then you've got the experienced Cricket Australia contracted players in Hussey and Hodge.

Basically, I don't think he'd make an Australia A full strength team but he'd be easily in Australia B.

When it comes to T20, he should be very close to selection IMO.

I went to the GABBA for a 4 day match and watched him make a terrific 70. He batted like Ponting that day. His problem at the moment is that he gets in a lot but doesn't go on to a big score and until he does he will not play for Australia in Test Cricket.

I actually have a bet with Prince EWS that if he plays for Australia he'll average more then Sarwan.
Based on the what i've seen from Voges & White especially, i wont want to see them near the test side as pure batsmen. I'm not sure what the selectors see in Voges.

Hodge is definately ahead of him, but given how the selectors have been treating him plus his age. Unless the panel is revamped, he might never get a chance, even if a major injury occurs in the upcoming summer to one of Ponting/Clarke/Hussey - thus making a obvious choice for a one-off test.

Plus your description of his run scoring in domestic cricket to date, sounds a bit like Ferguson..

Yeah he is similar to Ferguson Aussie only not as young and I think the SACA bat is definitely ahead of Bailey for a test spot as he has a CA contract and has performed well in ODIs for Australia.

Voges is already 30, so don't know how he is the part of the younger bunch, anyways have been a fan of Bailey for a while now, really like the way he plays, but his habit of consistently making these 50's and 60's and not turning them into big scores has been very annoying and disappointing.

Though this season he would captaining the Tassies, so probably that would make him bat with a bit more responsibility, and if he does that then there is no reason why he won't be considered for international duty, because there are certainly lot of places up for grabs in the current Aussie ODI and T20 sides.

What's with the Hodge hate? He's a class or three above some of his Vic friends picked in the test and one day side over the last year. One decision that was indisputable was the T20 debacle.
