Not really. A holding midfielder stays central and only goes wide if that is where the ball is. We play a 4-2-3-1 which means we have two holding midfielders and actually rely on one of them doing such a thing. Otherwise it would be a waste having two holding midfielders as you will rarely, if ever, see two centre backs forward at the same time. Either that, or one of the CBs cover for the full-back while the holding midfielder drops back - whatever transformation is quicker/smarter. Anyway, this is for during the game, and not a set-piece.Indeed, though him defending the set pieces poorly and him not getting back are two totally seperate things, him not being back for set pieces really would abominable, he wasn't that bad. There we just numerous occasions on which he stormed up the pitch, the ball was lost, and it was booted back down the ground into the space where he had just ran from and picked up by Young, against a good team, this sort of thing can be extremely costly. Also, contrary to popular belief, the job of a holding midfielder is to provide protection for the two centre backs, not the full backs, if a holding player is dragged out wide to cover for someone who has gone awol it totally defeats the point of playing them in the first place. Cover for the full backs is supposed to be provided by the man in front of them, its why during their golden stage, Ashley Cole and Pires were so effective, both were goofd whilst going forward, but you will notice that neither did so at the same time, and were very very rarely exposed down the left side.
A Liverpool defender at that!Yeah, how dare anyone single out a defender for poor defending, it's outrageous.
Hahaha, was going to post exactly this.Goals
Liverpool: 1
Aston Villa: 3
I've never said that. Thank you. How can I be biased when I was against Tevez from the start and fully supported getting rid of him?Roseboy by a long way.
Still thinks Dong was a good signing.
Shut up Rose, I recall various occasions on which you defended the signing of Dong Fangzhou.I've never said that. Thank you. How can I be biased when I was against Tevez from the start and fully supported getting rid of him?
Economically it was potentially a masterstroke, tbh. Doubt Fergie had any great ambitions for him as a player beyond a bit of bench-polishing in the Carling Cup really.Shut up Rose, I recall various occasions on which you defended the signing of Dong Fangzhou.
IIRC the whole argument rose made last season was that he wasn't signed for economic reasons, though.Economically it was potentially a masterstroke, tbh. Doubt Fergie had any great ambitions for him as a player beyond a bit of bench-polishing in the Carling Cup really.
Single out players that deserved it; namely Gerrard or Lucas. But your criticism was spurious. Anyway, enough of that. The Guardian is doing it's best work: "Benitez blames defeat on Senior players". No he didn't, you twits.Yeah, how dare anyone single out a defender for poor defending, it's outrageous.
Probably because all you ever talk about is Man Utd and none of the other 91 League Clubs and 1 decent Non League Club.I've never said that. Thank you. How can I be biased when I was against Tevez from the start and fully supported getting rid of him?
