The pre-emptive strike is an honourable defence - frankly if I was a professional footballer and thought some chancer might be about to lamp me I'd retaliate in advance

Never seen a pic, just going with the masses tbh

Awful names for those kids tbh

edit - Shouldn't have said it was 'accepted' that was a bit stupid BUT it is a rumour that refuses to go away three years on whether true or not, and I know plenty of reds who believe it too - it's hardly a bad reflection on Gerrard if his wife cheated on him

I had actually heard of that rumour but it's bull****. It refuses to go away as Gerrard refuses to score less than 20 goals a season ;).

Like I say, I know plenty of Liverpool fans who talk of it ;)

Don't particularly dislike Gerrard FTR and I think he is a bloody fine player, that being said it was great winding up the reds in work all week as some of their comments on matters like this defy all logic.

No, that depends on where this instigation is believed to have begun. For example, the DJ's behaviour towards Gerrard could have been seen as instigation.

They admitted it.

The video evidence shows him throwing a punch after the DJ fell towards him - which is after he was struck by someone else. Gerrard has said that he didn't know the DJ was struck until he saw the CCTV footage of it happening and then accepted he was mistaken. However, since we only judge on what he was reasonably to assume at the time his defense is fine.

Not that difficult.
He confronted the DJ and threw three punches. The excuses are so laughable, next time some drunk is stumbling about somewhere it is fair game now to throw 3 uppercuts as they're flopping towards the pavement? Oh wait that's only if you're rich, got a judge who's kissing your arse and a load of ****wit fans in the jury.

He confronted the DJ after having an altercation with him, where the DJ did not allow Gerrard to choose the music - as he was told he was allowed to do.

As he approached him, the DJ stood, the argument ensued, another member of the party threw an elbow, the DJ fell towards Gerrard and he hit the DJ thrice not knowing the DJ had been struck but believing that the DJ was going to get physical with him. That's it.

With all due respect, your take on the matter is laughable. You are either ignoring facts or you're unaware of them. Neither puts you in a good position to argue against what a court - with judge and jury - ruled.

IIRC, the same judge ruled against Joey Barton.

Gerrard has a clean record, apart from a DUI in his youth. He is a respected person inside and outside the sport and is a rather mundane but wholesome character. These facts and those of the case paint a pretty clear picture of Gerrard the man and what he is likely to have done/believed.

Yes and that fairy tale is ludicrous. Anyone not ridiculously biased can see through it.

I couldn't give a crap what the judge and jury ruled. Any fabricated tosh would have got him off because of all his pals being involved and who he is, and that's exactly what happened. There's no comparison at all with Joey Barton. The last paragraph is just hilarious and proves it's a waste of time arguing this any further.

Surprised at the verdict, tbh. Would've imagined the fact his six (count them) co-defendants copping a guilty plea and him admitting he got his retaliation in first might've counted against him.

In all seriousness it sounds as if Gerrard was the instigator, so one wonders why the others didn't contest the charges either? Perhaps one of our legal minds could shed some light as to the possible reasons? Aside from the obvious "being able to afford better legal representation", obv...

It's a bloody sham, it's outrageous but hardly surprising. Another victory for the magesterial British Legal System. What a farce.

Indeed, a pre-emptive strike is a valid defence to this sort of charge, but Gerrard laid into the guy with 4 punches, and his mates chipped in with elbows etc.. Self defence my arse.

Some good insider info from someone who would know the details of the marriage of a Liverpool couple and the city's gang working better than anyone else.

The thing about juries is that if they like or respect a defendant (or rather if at least three of them do) then the evidence is largely irrelevant

everyone loves a lottery
Which leads me onto a rant about another dodgily decided court case, know it isn't really the right thread, but thought the defendants in the case where they were convicted of stealing someones lottery ticket and cashing it got away with a very lenient sentence.
