IPL hurting the international game

Comment from Justin Vaughan:

Their decision helps to reinforce international cricket as the pinnacle of our sport, and clearly shows that representing New Zealand remains the biggest motivating factor for our leading players. We appreciate this issue may recur again and the onus is on international cricket to proactively search for solutions so that players are not forced to make such difficult decisions in the future."

I knew they wouldn't ditch this tour for money

The NZ players shouldn't have even had to have to chose between playing for their national sides & IPL, ITFP.

So in effect - the same way as now.
The BCCI did't the stop the ICL. All they did as the games "unofficial" governing body was not recognize it as an official cricket league from the inception in 08. That didn't stop the ICL from causing all the problem it did, until the massive player exodus recently, because of the big money incentives.

So how do you stop an ICL if ICC were all powerful? You can't legally stop people from playing cricket just because you don't like it.

Ha, you alone have found a joke here yo..

The ICL could have still happened. As i said before, they would have ONLY gotten retired international players or players wayyyyy outside the thoughts of national selectors. Given that a powerful ICC would most likely, like a FIFA have control of boards & players.

Thus whole IDEA of going to play for a non ICC sanctioned tournament would not have even entered the minds of any cricketer, whether he is a major intl player or a FC cricketer, because im sure bans would be the penalty.

So yo could if that was the case, the ICL may have probably squashed the tournament plans themselves given those restrictions haha. Since they really wouldn't have gotten any proper players into the league.

No, you can't legally control players like that. They have rights.

The "Control" is just a simple mechanism by which players are kept in check by their national boards under rules of the game. By no means is this control bullying as you are making it sound. Why should a cricketer like the NZ situation currently have to chose between playing for his country & IPL??. Thats utter BS.

If the ICC was a proper governing body, financially weak nations like NZ, PAK, WI, SRI BANG whose players dont get payed as highly as the others. Such mechanism would protect those boards from losing players, since they would clearly be the ones tempted by a rogue tycoon coming into cricket tying to create league, offering massive pay checks.

What should have happend as i've said before is the IPL should have been created as the one world league. Thus players can freely have the option of playing for their national sides & IPL.

This constant grovelling due to the FTP & player burn-out will continue to affects those nations. Plus the bigger dawgs like AUS etc, because as long as players have to be chosing IPL vs national side, IPL is gonna win eventually. Thus test cricket is going to be affected, since a dangerous precedence by the younger generation for T20s over tests is already developing.

This is why the ICC needs become a true governing body ASAP & get a grip of this bloodclath sport.

Bopara came back from the IPL in excellent form actually; he scored back-to-back Test hundreds against the West Indies and looked in good touch in the ODIs too.

His problems against Australia have been due to the fact that he's not very good at this stage.

Grghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, the aussie's tour has been cut short. We are only playing two test matches now, so McCullum and co can get to the IPL.
