Evening JBH001. 88 of the 126 runs scored have been boundaries, good form from England, cant help thinking though that the Aussies will destory us when they get in to bat.

Nice morning's work by Strauss and Cook - maybe especially for Strauss winning the toss.

The pitch is flat and it's possible to score quickly at Lord's and the bowling has again been well below the expected standard. But you still have to put the rubbish in the bin and it seems that they've done so effectively and haven't lost a wicket in doing so.

Anyhow it's nice also to be following the cricket again rather than quarrelling about Ricky Ponting's off-field pronouncements. That said, I sense that a certain tension in Anglo-Aussie relations has set in on this messageboard. Come on guys, the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 means that we should treat the Aussies like we would anyone else, so let's all learn to live together.

If Strauss and Cook - who are not especially strokeplaying batsmen - can score 126 in a session against mediocre (certainly not out-and-out dreadful) bowling, I shudder to think what the likes of Haddin and Hughes might (though clearly only might) do.

450 and England are behind the eight-ball, as I say. 550 would make the match competetive. 650 and England should be safe.

Great start from Cook and Strauss, I wouldn't have dreamed we'd be 126/0 at lunch. I don't care about the pitch at this moment in time (would rather wait until both first innings), but these guys have done a good job so far. I hope they keep focus and carry on after lunch.

As for the Aussie bowling, I wish I could be watching the match rather than being at work to see what it's really like. But if it's anything like the last match, I think Siddle is the big threat. It's so amazing to think this is only his 23rd FC match.

450 would be a problem if the deck was going to get more difficult to bat on, but I'd be shocked if it did. Plus there'll be time lost to rain tomorrow. Only serious cloud cover can win anyone this match IMO.

Great ball. Siddle isnt bad.

No, he's been bowling well the last part of the session. Needs some support though. I guess one of the problems with a young attack is the slope at Lords is a mystery when they first encounter it. Hopefully everyone improves as the match goes on. Especially Johnson. He's been really erratic the last match and the start of this one.

I always forget when the forecast is moderate. Will be annoying if this game could've been a really high-scoring good-'un (unlikely, I admit) and the weather denied the chance.

Shades of Edgbaston test from the 2005 Ashes, England might easily socre 400+ on day 1, and this time they might not even get bowled out, horrible bowling from all the Australian bowlers apart from Hilfenhaus.
