Australia's intimidating of the umpire is far worse than any mild time-wasting England did. Ponting should receive a suspended ban for the stuff he was pulling yesterday.

Ponting has every right to moan, as I said in the "Ponting accuses England..." thread morally we don't have a leg to stand on, it was blatant gamesmanship, pure and simple. & it would have been a dereliction of duty if our management hadn't employed a spot of temporal dissipation.

We've no way of knowing for sure if Australia would've similarly indulged, but Hauritz has been honest enough to suggest he would've done.

I don't think for a minute that this message will be lost on the England set-up. I just can't see them spending the next 3 days slapping each other on the back. On the contrary, I expect yesterday's hero Panesar will get the chop, if not from the squad then certainly from the XI that plays at Lord's.
I don't think it will either, but it's a lot of improving to do in 3 or 4 days.

He could join a number of the English players on the bench for over appealing

(Note: I did not say 'being overly appealing'. Jimmy and that nancy boy Broad do about as much for me as they did for their bowling averages this week).

Worry about that any time England coming into bat to be honest. My biggest fear for this match is that we get obsessed with spin and they both go for over 100 with a couple of wickets between them.
Did not even manage two wickets.

It's not a case of over-appealing, why does nobody get this??????

Because England appealed too much for non-existant chances

Actually it's probably for the same reason people jump on Ponting to be fair.
No. It was the aggressive dissent after the umpire had made his not-out decision. Personally I don't think Aus over-did the appealing at all yesterday, but Ponting was bang out of order reacting like he did when Colly was given not out off Hauritz's bowling. It's totally separate. And it's why it's laughable for him to be claiming any of the moral high ground. Not that most of us give a damn tbh.

Yep as I say it was the blatant intimidation.

Ponting's appealing when they went up for a lbw and then caught when Collingwood was batting was aggressive and confrontational. It was the sort of thing you'd expect from the footballers and he's the captain. You have to stamp down on things like that, otherwise you're just condoning it and next time the whole lot of them will be acting like an enraged chimp.

The difference between the two teams was that Australia were the only team who looked capable of taking wickets and if England want any hope of winning the ashes they need to take regular wickets.

Ponting complains, Poms complain back, Poms are the ones who get called whingers (by a Norn Irishman who should know better )
Ponting was asked about it! He didn't come out screaming "it's a ****ing disgrace!" at the cameras while being held back by his coaching staff.

Somewhere in the midst of all the "well done England, fought really hard" and "it's disappointing, but we'll move on to Lord's and see if we can keep on improving" Ponting said England's blatant gamesmanship may have mildly annoyed him and it's been used in the long-running England-fans campaign to convince themselves that he's really a flamboyantly evil Aussie criminal as opposed to a perfectly normal, decent bloke.

Or maybe, just maybe, it was the fact that he went on about how Australia would continue to uphold the spirit of cricket. It's not like he answered with just one sentence either, he talked for quite a bit about it, and the whole "but that's not why we didn't win the test" line was nothing but a disclaimer. He is a self-righteous, hypocritical man, who happens to be the best bloody batsman of the 21st century, but a ****'s a ****, simple as really.
