***Official*** English Domestic Season 2009

This isn't quite as prolific a Bangladesh U19 side as we have seen in the past (thinking of the Tamim/Mushfiq/Shakib side that smashed England a few years back) and they'll naturally struggle in English conditions with a bit of pace in the pitch.

Amit Majumder (opening bat) and Mahmudul Hasan (captain, middle order bat, offie) are the two to keep an eye on.

Quality knock by Cobb though - he and James Taylor must play ahead of the Saffie mercenaries down at Grace Road more often.

Zaremba may know if Eastbourne-born Luke Wells is related to Alan and Colin, perhaps.

I didn't know about that IPL-type match at Lord's, nice bonus for the members to see Warne playing again.

James Taylor is an absolutely gun fielder. Saw him take the best catch I've ever seen at Headingley in the 20-20 cup.

Adam Shantry running through Essex at the moment with 4-39, Essex really struggling at 93-6, chasing down Glamorgan's first innings of 515-9 declared! Hashim Amla failed on his first CC appearance for Essex, bowled for four off AJ Harris. Down to RTD and Napes to try and gain some semblance of respectability.

Just listening to the BBC commentary on the Essex Glam game and the commentators are treading on dangerous ground for no apparent reason. Their descriptions of Hashim Amla is just one stereotype away from Dean Jones territory, "he looks rather strange for Western eyes" (a Muslim in Essex?) and farm animals are treated better than women in the subcontinent. All rather bizarre, just wanted to hear how Hash was helping Essex attempt to save the game.

Kent batting to number 11 with Parnell down to bat at 9.

Be a good test for Wayne, flat Oval wicket, see what you can do on that. Andre Nel out for Surrey. Big blow that and no overseas pro for them as well. First four day game at the Oval since May.

Durham Yorkshire game is a good one to keep an eye on, see how Harmison and Onions go.

Going ok second innings. At lunch Hashim is 118 N/O and he may yet still save Essex from defeat.

Shame that he is only at the county until Kaneria returns, as half season playing for Essex would get his first class average close to 50.

Amla's mini epic still going strong and he should save Essex from defeat. Currently 168 N/O and has faced personally 50 overs. :)

Yes excellent stuff from Hash in the second innings. Looks a real good player these days, and it is indeed an excellent signing for Essex. A lead of 41 now for Essex, these two need to continue as they're going, keep scoring the runs and extending that lead.

Just need to bat for another hour and they will be shaking hands.

His only got another three weeks (max) with the county, so maybe he can get another gig elsewhere for the last six weeks.

Hashi saves Essex with a vital 181, before finally falling to Robert Croft. Crucial support too from RTD, the Essex boys salvaged that game when it looked highly unlikely, well done too to James Foster for his 64.

Counties would be mad not to look at Amla, should he be interested, in filling their overseas role for that period. Continuing to grow into one of the world's finest players.

Not a bad day at t'Oval today, apart from being arsed about by southeasternrailways as usual (they don't believe in holding connections at Strood, obviously) - disappointing to see Ramps get out for 86 as he doesn't often go for between 50 and 100, but a nice little stand by Schofield and Jordan late in the day gladdened the heart. What staggered me was the size of the crowd, and it was a crowd, easily 1500, could have been 2000. The club was caught on the hop - the caterers had run out of food long before the end of the lunch interval - and this, remember, for a county championship match, the sort of cricket that nobody ever goes to, or so we're often told. They weren't letting people in for nothing as far as I could tell (and I don't think that would've done it), so I can only conclude that with the Ashes under way London has gone cricket crazy, and any cricket will do, even a boring old county match. Time will tell.
