Can anyone who's watching on Sky tell me what speeds Harmison is being clocked at?

If he's up at 90mph and taking Criminal wickets then he will be very much in the selectors' minds.

The side is more or less settled as:

1. Cook
2. Strauss
3. Bopara
4. Penisen
5. Collingwood
6. Prior
7. Flintoff
8. Broad
9. Swann
10. Anderson

Rightly or wrongly, the 11th player will be a bowler. 4 bowlers are in the mix:

Bottom
Harmison
Panesar
Onions

If Harmison gets another couple of wickets today then my money's on him being selected.
Hes been bowling at around 86-87 mph. Hes still been getting more out of this pitch than anyone else.

He regularly produced 90 MPH in the first innings, I don't think his pace is dropped in this innings.
Thanks - interesting to hear this. If he can do that in a Test match, I'd almost be happy for him to be picked.

Why the **** is Broad's place secured in the team?Consistency??
He's shown enough potential and improvement to warrant a place. Although to be clear the reason I included him in the above list was not because I thought he should be in the team, but because I think that's the team the selectors will pick.

Talking about possession?

Sidebottom was the man in possession before his injury, remember the 1st Test in New Zealand?
Not really, he performed poorly against the WI and let the side down by being unfit and putting on a keystone cops performance in the field.

Way down the pecking order.

LoL. Whatever you say. He's good enough to play for England if he's fully fit, IMO.

I think it will be a shoot out between Onions and Harmison to be honest rightly or wrongly and both will probably end up in the XII. I know Flower isnt the biggest fan of Harmison so I know that he'll be thinking twice before selecting Harmison in the final side.

Yeah, god I hate David Lloyd. I think I might dislike him more than Healy, because for some reason people seem to like Lloyd. At least everyone thinks Healy is an idiot.
I think Healy could actually be a very good commentator he just decided to be a cheerleader which is what pisses me off a little. Bumble is just a bit of a spacker really.

The thing about Broad is that if he has a poor series, which I believe is most likely to happen then England have basically wasted an entire year on trying to develop Broad and have gotten nowhere and it could inevitably cost them the Ashes and more importantly to me, a close series. Also where do England go with Broad if he does fail in the Ashes? Sure they can't persist with a guy averaging 40 after so many Tests?

It's not whatever I say, its fact. He got dropped the next game for Amjad frigging Khan!

He'd be useful in English conditions but not if he is trundling in at low 80mph. And he is now down the pecking order.

By your theory, after 2002 Freddie Flintoff would never have been seen in an England shirt again.

Players can improve, which Broad has certainly done. He's got a good cricket brain the lad imo.

You yourself said he was unfit and now you're saying he got dropped

That's why i said "Whatever you say".

He was a star in New Zealand, and he's bowled well for England on so many occassions.

But, now there's no point in discussing about him. Harmisson, Onions & Monty are already in the wickets, so it's unlikely he'll play at Cardiff.

I think you are exaggerating a little bit. Broad has improved, a 95 year old granny whos watched 2 minutes of him before the winter tours and after could tell you that much. His pace has improved, hes hitting nearly 90 mph these days, he has more variety in his bowling and his last 2 series have been better than anything for his entire career and pretty respectable bowling figures by anyones standards.

Can't believe how much you Aussies get sand in your vag about a commentary team. Especially when we've had to put up with Channel 9 from your mob over the years ;)

David 'Bumble' Lloyd is a wee bit mad. Really.
Yeah it's phenominal really. Everytime we start talking about commentary teams we go to our sandpits, spread our legs and grow a vag,

England aren't relied on him, he's only playing as a 4th seamer and he's handy with the bat.

Broad's performance will most likely be overshadowed by Anderson, 2nd seamer & Freddie.

Also where do Aussie go with Hauritz if he does fail in the Ashes? Can they really play without a spinner or go back to Krejza/Mcgain?

His performed OK against the West Indies, the 2nd weakest team in world cricket at the moment. We'll see how he performs against the best.

Broad is a poor mans Flintoff. He's a must if Freddie is injured, but when Flintoff is available I don't think his position in the team is as obvious. Broad performed well against West Indies so he'll be named but I think I would find Anderson, Harmison, Flintoff, Onions and Swann a tougher bowler combination then one with Broad in it.

I think you'll be surprised.

People have to remember that Broad (or whoever is picked ahead of him in the event of the dropping some of you are calling for) is picked as the fifth bowler. I don't think it's unreasonable to suggest that someone selected as the fifth frontline bowler in a team could possibly have his batting taken into account.

Personally I think Broad's spot should be going to a batsman - or at least someone picked primarily as a batsman who could also bowl - with Prior being dropped for someone who could catch, but failing that I do think Broad's the best option. One decent game from Harmison isn't going to change that, particularly given Broad's improvement in recent times, and particularly given the likely slow nature of the Cardiff wicket.

I'm not a big fan of Broad's bowling by any stretch of the imagination but I think he offers more to the team in its current balance than Harmison, even if Harmison is a marginally better bowler on balance.
