... and the same guy whose half-century at the Oval was (arguably) crucial in winning the Ashes. Batting ability should never be underestimated, particularly for someone who is basically a supporting bowler.
Quite right. Unless a spinner is of Warnesque ability (and ironically the great man could bat anyway), I don't see any problems in having batting as a tie-breaker.

Think the truth somewhere between the extremes of opinion from Ben & Bob, tbh.

Onions has ability, obv, but bit early to start work on the statue.
Not bagging the lad, he looks pretty good. Bagging Willis instead. He's just said "you can't just duck under the short ball and let it safely pass over you". Well **** me, if Hughes did that hed be 40 not out by now.

Can anyone who's watching on Sky tell me what speeds Harmison is being clocked at?

If he's up at 90mph and taking Criminal wickets then he will be very much in the selectors' minds.

The side is more or less settled as:

1. Cook
2. Strauss
3. Bopara
4. Penisen
5. Collingwood
6. Prior
7. Flintoff
8. Broad
9. Swann
10. Anderson

Rightly or wrongly, the 11th player will be a bowler. 4 bowlers are in the mix:

Bottom
Harmison
Panesar
Onions

If Harmison gets another couple of wickets today then my money's on him being selected.

Broad is improving all the time and is getting better. Harmison, despite wickets here has let England down plenty recently - taking his wickets at 40+ for the last 4 years.

Broad is the man in possesion.

Imo, they'll go for 1 spinner and the bowling attack will be:

Broad,Anderson,Flintoff,Swann and then it'll be between Harmison or Onions.

I wouldn't rate Broad close to Flintoff, Anderson, Harmison or Sidebottom.
Think its irrelevant. Broad is a far superior bowler on a lifeless pitch away from home than Harmison or Sidebottom will arguably ever be. The point though is that England need to pick for the short term, Broad will probably end up to be a better bowler than both Harmison and Sidebottom but for this series, Harmison is probably likely to be more dangerous. I would go for Harmison and Onions instead of Broad to be honest but that is just my opinion.

He regularly produced 90 MPH in the first innings, I don't think his pace is dropped in this innings. He probably is in the eye-line of the selectors. Why the **** is Broad's place secured in the team?Consistency??

Yeah, god I hate David Lloyd. I think I might dislike him more than Healy, because for some reason people seem to like Lloyd. At least everyone thinks Healy is an idiot.
Can't believe how much you Aussies get sand in your vag about a commentary team. Especially when we've had to put up with Channel 9 from your mob over the years ;)

David 'Bumble' Lloyd is a wee bit mad. Really.

Talking about possession?

Sidebottom was the man in possession before his injury, remember the 1st Test in New Zealand?
