I resent him because he keeps getting mentioned as being next in line for England when he would be 7th choice at Durham.
No, he's quite right. Harmison, Onions, Thorp and Davies all have much more convincing FC records for starters. Durham would have no need to go anywhere near a player like Mahmood.Obviously not true. But I know you have a bee in your bonnet about such things, so I won't pursue this further.
But they have done...
The same way SA would not pick Botha in their test side as a second spinner
Except as has been said Samit's record in FC cricket is much better than his record in List A cricket, so it's pointless judging him unworthy from a few ODs.
The stuff about county cricket is just rambling. Samit has a good record in division 1 and division 2, would you prefer he had a bad record like Vaughan? Bell doesn't convert his ability into Test cricket because he's a mentally soft. You have to give guys like Patel a chance to see whether they'll cut it or not. Apart from the stuff concerning his fitness he has earned himself the opportunity to show what he can do.
We've found the solution - Panesar to open the batting! The Ashes are practically ours!TheEpic said:I love this. Patel must be a bad player because he makes lots of runs. I didn't realise that having a terrible FC record was a pre-requisite for international selection.
Yea when did know much about him. Its only recent months vs AUS that Botha has really found his range as a top ODI spinner. But they have done...
The performances of Mahmood & Harmo especially, further backs up my point about the standard of county cricket being poor, even though the strucute is solid.Anyway, joking aside. It's nice to see Mahmood and Harmison get a bagful each, seems to me a lot of people on this forum get some sort of sick pleasure over watching these lads fail. Whilst neither should be near the England side at present, English bowlers taking lots of wickets for not many runs is always a positive sign. Mahmood especially, if he can sort out his accurary issues he could still have an international future ahead of him, realise this is a big if though.
Not bad from this Bairstow lad either on debut! Hope he has a big career ahead of him after what happened to his Dad. A real cricketing tragedy.
I don't even understand what you're saying. It sounds to me like you just said that Harmison looked at his best when he'd had a sustained run in county cricket prior to playing international cricket, which hardly backs up your argument about the standard of county cricket being detrimental to the chances of players to succeed at a higher level. The performances of Mahmood & Harmo especially, further backs up my point about the standard of county cricket being poor, even though the strucute is solid.
Last season Harmo was flying for Durham - had a top test vs SA @ the Oval - looked sharp in the ODIs, then was just awful in the winter. Some may argue that well maybe Harmo away from home especially on those flat pitches really is an average bowler & if he keeps going well for Durham he could trouble AUS on a pacy deck somewhere in the Ashes. But its clear thats not a good enough reason, to keep backing him to come good any longer.
Mahmood is just useless...
Mickey Arthur knows all about him. He was his coach when Botha bowled seam. They were desperate to get him back into the test fold but he had a mare.Yea when did know much about him. Its only recent months vs AUS that Botha has really found his range as a top ODI spinner.
Good un!awta
Go Pushy!
Because we seem to play him every game come what may, and bowl him at the wrong times(ever since he was picked for England he's been an automatic choice when he shouldn't necessarily have been), for instance in the T20 he's been our most expensive bowler, but is the only bowler who's bowled his full allocation in every game, our most frugal bowler got about half his overs (and bowled them at the top of the innings). In the championship he's still been massively inconsistent, despite him being a lot better this year. He's taken 0 wickets, 10 wickets, 0 wickets & 8 wickets in the games he has played.Seems a shame then that they'd resent having an England international in their XI who can be destructive on his day. 211 wickets @ 31 is far from the worst FC record around.
