"DEVON have drafted in an virtual unknown from New Zealand to strengthen their side for tomorrow's Twenty20 Challenge match against Warwickshire Bears at Exmouth (5pm).
Nice work, Jimmy. This deserves its own thread. The Life and Times of James Neesham esq.

I reckon Jimmy's progress would be a good read for CW's frontpage TBH. He seems to write pretty well judging by his posts too, although I'm yet to see anything particularly long from him. I wonder if he'd be interested.

White drafted in, I reckon it's a mistake, should have been Hodge.
Criminal mistake. Hodge is in far better touch than White and is a class above the "hoick-to-the leg-side" White. Can't believe Australia have missed picking Hodge again. Could cost them big time

This is what Symonds always wanted, I reckon. Free from the CA shackles, he's now looking forward to earning just as much while playing only six weeks of the year. Plus the odd cameo for the Bulls but only in the shorter forms.

He still needs CA sign off to participate in the IPL. Remains to be seen how forgiving they are if they suspect he's pulling a fast one on them.

My understanding is that he only needs CAs Green Light if (a) he is still contracted or (b) he retires or makes himself otherwise unavailable for international selection. However, in this case, he's been sacked; thus he doesn't need CAs imprimatur.

Has he been sacked from all CA/State association contracts or just his national team contract? I'm not 100% but I'm sure the IPL requires players to have some sort of contractual obligation to a cricket board somewhere.

Just his CA contract I think mate.

CA contract players are not, it's my understanding, contracted to their States.

Anyway, I don't think you have to be contracted to anyone (as with Gilchrist and Warne) to play IPL.

However, it stands to reason that your marketing appeal and perhaps your dollar value for IPL may shrink if you're not playing international cricket.

Shouldnt allow a replacement IMO

He's fit, available but CA made the call to dispense with his services so now they have to pay the price
Well, CA employs Andrew Symonds not the other way around.

If Scotland can get another player in after a disagreement then Australia should be able to too. Not White though...geez.

have they actually terminated his contract or just stood him down with no intensions of renewing it when it runs out?also i dont think you have to be contracted to australia to play state, the reason i say that is ca have not renewed shaun taits contract and im sure he is still going to be able to play for the redbacks.

Yeah, it's very disappointing. :(

I was one of his biggest fans, too.

That's what 'alcoholism' can do to you.

He was never the same after that Sydney Test. More and more, that Test is looking like a phyrric Australian victory - the fallout from it rendered the Australian victory nearly worthless, forshadowing as it did a year-long decline. Symonds is merely one of the worst affected by it.

"The other thing is he might just be sick [of cricket]," Healy told radio station 2KY. "He's just cooked and tired of cricket and sort of wants to be dropped.

"I'm not sure whether Symo wants to play cricket or be bound by contracts or be bound by the Cricket Australia structure. I sense that he might be seeking the freedom that IPL and maybe a county stint might offer him."

Corresponds to howardj's theory as well. Bit of a douchebag thing to do if that was his intention.
