Simple truth is there aren't that many good bowlers around currently. 150kph or 130kph.

To think only 10 years ago the names we could use to compare the 150kph (Donald, Akhtar) with the 140kph (Walsh, Ambrose, Gough, Younis, Gillespie, Akram, Srinath, Ntini) and the 130kph (Pollock, Fraser, Streak, Cork, Cairns, Fleming, Kasprowicz, de Villiers, Vaas, McGrath).

Fast bowling draught indeed. Steyn, Johnson, Anderson, Taylor, Khan, Sharma, Asif, Gul are all fine fast bowlers, but the majority of the other list are better bowlers.

Nah your right there isn't many that are considered fast these days, but I'm guessing there are a lot of them stuck in First-Class cricket. These days if your fast, you usually get spanked around, unless you are really, really good.

It's always been the way. If you're fast and poor, you get spanked.

It just so happened that there were quite a few fast and good bowlers in 1999 and 2000 or so. At the current time, the relatively few that are very fast (it's always been relatively few) are mostly poor. The only particularly good genuinely fast bowlers around currently are Steyn and Johnson. And Flintoff on the rare occasions he's fit.

Malinga and Edwards hard done by there. Just as good as Flintoff in Test cricket, probably even better. Malinga better in ODI too though has been injured for a long length of time. Edwards has certainly been good enough in this past year or two to have his name amongst the best genuinely fast bowlers in the world today.

Indeed, if West Indies could catch, Edwards would have had quite a few wickets in the home series against England. He tends to go missing often away from West Indies though, which is a shame.

Flintoff is a walking injury.
None of Edwards, Malinga and Flintoff are as good as Steyn or Johnson but they can certainly be mentioned in the same breath.

Malinga and Edwards are probably the most devastating bowlers in the world when in form.

I'd still rate Fidel Edwards as sub-par as a Test bowler TBH, though there's no doubt he's better now than ever. As for Maaalinga, he's interesting and always has been but has still yet to land any really big punches.

Both of them < Flintoff, comfortably. If, of course, he's ever fit again - and the "he isn't" argument has some merit.

Cricinfo - Bond could be in line for Test comeback

Shane Bond, Daryl Tuffey and Lou Vincent could all be playing for New Zealand again as early as August after the New Zealand Herald reported that the trio are about to sever their ties with the rebel ICL.

Actualy, I can see a log jam coming.

Vettori is the captain, so thats one spot gone.

If Bond is available, he will be picked, so thats two.

Oram is our allrounder, there's three.

That leaves a duel between Martin, O'Brien, Tuffey, Franklin, Southee, Mills etc.
