Battle of the Sporting Heroes

Well sums up his legacy for you, I've never heard of "The Shot".
Lol, how does that sum up his legacy?

Anyway, if you are interested:

The Shot - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
YouTube - Michael Jordan "The Shot"
YouTube - Michael Jordan - "The Shot" (in full)
I'm sorry, a lot of us couldn't care less about a sport, where being tall is a prerequisite so eliminates billions of people from playing it brilliantly.
I'm not really a basketball fan. It interests me, but I'd hardly say I follow it properly.

But I don't follow golf either, but I'd vote Tiger Woods over Rahul Dravid.

That being said, I don't really want to tell people how to vote. I do think Jordan is a special case though. Will really be shocked if he's out first round.

Um you said:

"the fact that a shot of his is known as "The Shot" should sum up his legacy."

I was replying too that:)
I don't think that can detract from a legacy though, because there would be individuals (even cricket fans) completely unaware that Bradman scored 300 in a day of cricket. But it wouldn't take away from it, not even for a second.
Anyway, you see greatness in that I see greatness in this, 35 seconds in.

We'll probably not agree.....
Heh, that's some pretty cool footage. That was a kick-ass tackle, tournament changing though?

Either way, don't really see how you could deny Jordan's shot as being 'great' though. Even if you don't like basketball. But I guess, since you said you'd vote him over other famous footballers, just not Moore, I understand your pov.

Still, no point having this thread if there's going to be zero discussion :)

I never said it did, seems to be an argument on semantics, this legacy thingy.

Nah, it wasn't, just remembered as one of the great tackles of all time. The three goals he set up in the '66 World Cup final probably was.

I actually said I'd vote Jordan over a number of football players, not Moore though or Richard Logan .

Don't mind discussion, but was a lil confused about your ire, mainly because (unless my maths is very much awry) he's going to beat Sir Bobby easily, which will distress a number of old-school football fans like myself, for whom Bobby is an iconic figure.

Yeah sorry that's what I meant. The fact you'd vote him over other footballers (just not Moore) obviously means you're not just voting any footballer because you don't like basketball.

I just think Jordan is the greatest team sportsmen of the modern era, and only behind Bradman overall. His record is immense, and if he were to go out first round (hadn't counted the votes tbf), it'd have been quite amazing.

To me, he's one of those players that transcend following or liking the sport, like Woods, Bradman, Ali etc.

Obviously people vote who they have fonder memories/like better (I'd vote AFL player Matty Richardson in every round had he not already been eliminated), but I think a criteria should have perhaps been used.

Cricket, Lovely Cricket
Sampras - I must be one of the few people who liked him more than Agassi
I fall in that category as well. :)

Sampras and Jordan.

Jordan wins over Moore easily. He was the greatest basketball player EVER. I know football is way more popular than basketball but to be the greatest in a sport as Jordan did in basketball is no joke. He carried his team to two three-peat wins and brought new fans to basketball as no one did before or since. He WAS and still is synonymous with basketball to an extent. Jordan had special skills and while Moore was blessed with special skills as well, the special skills of Jordan are far more exceptional.

Sampras - only one I've heard of, and I quite like him.

Law - because he's clearly not going to win, and to the older generations of my family he is The King. Would vote Moore over Jordan, though.

Yes, the Lawman has been rather marginalised in this battle, which is a shame really.

Raul - Davis is boring and haven't heard of the other bloke.

Phil Taylor in the other due to poor quality of his competitors, some bloke chucking darts should not be a sporting hero but there we go.
