Battle of the Sporting Heroes

Sampras and Jordan.

Loved Sampras growing up, was my favourite non-AFL sportsman and Jordan was synonymous with the 90s.

Sampras and Moore.

Would've gone Jordan, but feel Moore deserves more than 1 or 2 votes.

Jordan is one of only a few sportsman who changed the face of his/her sport all over the globe...

He was singlehandedly the reason Australian Basketball went through a huge boom in the early to mid 90s...

James and Michael Jordan.

Not really ever going to vote for a South African rugby player and Sampras was as interesting as a Murali vs Warne debate.

Looks like I've missed a few battles - seems as though most of my choices were winners anyway (though would've voted for Navratilova in that last battle).

Pete Sampras and Bobby Moore.

Sampras - I must be one of the few people who liked him more than Agassi

Jordan - Harsh on two bona fide football legends, but I got into the NBA in the late '80s almost purely to watch Jordan play. An absolute phenomenon.

Sampras. Joost is without a doubt the best running scrum-half I've seen, but he looks gone and would far prefer Pistol Pete to advance than a basketballer.

Moore in the second. Read the game so well and his tackles put a Swiss watchmaker's timing to shame. Jordan might be the best at what he did, but so was Moore and what he did matters infinitely moore (sic). Association football is the world's game, after all.

Eric Cantona 8
Andy Roddick 6
Michael Schumacher 7

Battle #20
Eddy Merckx 2
Martina Navrativola 8
Ryan Giggs 9

Sorry but that second result is a disgrace people. Two sporting legends gone to Giggs who is/was no better than good.
missed out on the battel would have made it a tie with my votes

****, surely Jordan goes through!

I know we have varied ways/reasons for voting, but was Moore as big to the game of football, as Jordan was to NBA?

Jordan changed the face of the sport, created a generation of international Bulls fans that previously didn't follow the NBA, and scored some of the most amazing clutch shots/matches in any sport. the fact that a shot of his is known as "The Shot" should sum up his legacy.

Well sums up his legacy for you, I've never heard of "The Shot".

I'm sorry, a lot of us couldn't care less about a sport, where being tall is a prerequisite so eliminates billions of people from playing it brilliantly.

Many people don't care about soccer or cricket, and I wouldn't expect them to vote for the icons of those sports.

I'd of voted him, over Cantona, Giggs or Law though.
