Unlucky for the Dees blew it in the 3rd quater with too many poor kicks from Half Back. A. Davey what a gun!!!

If Melb had like 5% more skill in their team they'd have won.
Similar story to last week, although 10% and they would have won. Also if Miller had actually been on, like he has in previous weeks, they would have had a chance to get up.

How much has Aaron Davey stepped up this season? Such a good player. Great skills and disposal, lightning speed, terrific decision making.

Too many ordinary players there, though. Peake, Murphy and to an extent Schammer aren't really going to be guys who you can get away with if you want to have a tilt at a flag. Johnson too was diabolical in that first half (nearly the worst tackler in the league), and seems to have gone backward since his awesome debut season. I will also never get the Mundy hype.

That being said, I think they should have won last night. Hawthorn were pretty bad, and Freo blew their chances with about five or six goals that should have been kicked (Suban, Sandilands, McPharlin, etc.)
Mundy absolutely refuses to go in and fetch his own ball. If he's closest, he'll still wait out the back to be designated user. Really don't understand the hype he's gotten.

Reckon Peake isn't bad, Schammer just butchers the ball though.

Morton's the worst user of the footy in the AFL, which is a shame because he's very talented otherwise.
the AFL stats have him down with 18 effective kicks from 23 @ 78% but the decisions are now where near as valuable as Davey who had 14/20 @ 70% but created 3 goals and could have been more. Top move to play Davey in the middle, every season his Contested ball has dropped but he can impact the game so much more than as a goal sneak.

Brock Mclean's disposals by foot were poor today, definitely not his strong point going by his career stats. Good hard nut but it looks like the D's want him to become and outside player?

McLean just hasn't had the career people thought he was going to have. Still has time, and obviously has had injury woes, but he looked like he'd be an absolute star at the end of 2006.

80+% efficiency at 192cm, but your right he only gets 5 CP's a game on average. If he got more possessions and maintained the numbers he would across his stats be exactly at the level of the top 20 elite players for hard/loose ball break down etc. Massive potential.
Schammer is little more efficient than G Ablett, just gets it alot less :p and in a **** team. Probably poor decisions is what hurts him.

Davey gets fed the ball, and so he should. Even if he misses the target, the ball travels so quickly that it leaves the opposition out of position. Whereas a Morton turns the ball over directly, or doesn't get the ball where it should, and creates a contest where there shouldn't be one.

Mundy gets stats, but he gets stats that anyone could get in that role. He uses it OK, but as that loose man role he doesn't impact contests and help out his mates, like you see a Milburn or Goddard do.

Really think that a lot of these "efficiency stats" are a bit of a crock, because it rewards players who have safe possessions that don't damage sides.

You can only compare these players across the competition, look at how weak some of the WCE players looked after they couldn't ride on the coattails of Judd/Cousins anymore. How good would Selwood look if he went to the Tigers etc. etc.?

Yeah that's always been my mark on him as well. Great player, don't get me wrong, but he's the 4th best midfielder in his side assuming we count Corey as a midfielder and not a HB-man. If he was in a side where he was top dog getting the Kane's, Ling's etc every week it may be a different story.

That said, you can only judge a man on his output and so far it's been very good.

Do you rate Corey ahead of Selwood DCYE?

I think the point against Selwood is valid, but I think it can be made for Corey as well. I rate Selwood higher, reckon he uses it better.

Smashed by Geelong, but when you are missing perhaps 8 of your best 22 against the best H&A side for yonks, your in trouble. We got smashed in the midfield but hopefully we will finally see the back of Power with Wells, Zeibell and Rawlings back in next week. Hansen and Pratt should be back round 9 but the defence was actually admirable today. Missing Matty Campbell again badly

Should be a closer game against Freo next week

Reckon the fact that Selwood gets tagged more often than Corey and Bartel these days says something.

How far away is Liam Anthony? Supposed to be a gun.
