Feel sorry for Owen really, don't think he wasted his talent either, he really was one of the best strikers in the world for a few years and in that way he fullfilled his potential. Problem for him of course was that he fulfilled it at such an early age which leaves a massive expectation to maintain such a level for a very long time. Injuries have then put pay to any chance of him doing this. This season is the first time I have really doubted his chances of regaining any sort of his old form, in the past he always scored goals when he was anything like fit, at the moment this doesn't seem to be the case.BTW, isn't it sad to see Michael Owen's career going the same way as Robbie Fowler's? Or maybe not as I know a lot of people don't like him. I just hate the fact that a player who seemed to have it all never quite did it.
Surely it just makes the JPT North more Southern?I'm trying to think how many northern teams are left. Us, Oldham, Carlsile (only just!), possibly Scunny, there might be more, Huddersfield in fact, not terrible but definitely the lower leagues it's like it's League 1 South
TBH it means the northern side of the JPT is weaker which might help our chances of getting to wembley next season
Should never have played in the 2006 World Cup either, that injury was probably the killer. Still think he has a chance of being a decent Premiership striker though, will never be the at the very top because of a loss of pace but if he can just get some luck with injury and maybe a fresh start. Can see him doing well at a club like Villa or even Everton. He made two bad career moves, one was leaving Liverpool where they loved him, and the other was going to Newcastle, a catastrophic error. He did well at Madrid with all things considered, but if he hadn't been so worried about his England career I reckon Liverpool would have signed him back. now they have Torres and Owen plays for a relegation struggler. It's a funny ol' game, apparently.
Agreed, I'm more sorry for me then him. I really thought after 1998 World Cup we had a real superstar, he was decent for a few years, but never really lived up to it. Players have to work in different ways once teams come up with ways to play against them. That's what Cristiano has done, that's why he's world-class (at football and being a ****).Don't think he offered enough besides his goals to be considered top-class for the latter part of his playing career. He really did peak when he was about 18.
