The copper who arrested me was a Boro fan. He told me that he hoped we stuffed you lot in the second leg because he hated ya!

Draw useless to both teams, Hull will be praying it stays like this.

I'm gutted for Ryan Taylor but otherwise the whole situation is hilarious

Think that goal might just keep Newcastle in the Premiership, Hull have completly imploded, so much so that I really cannot see them getting another point which leaves Baggies or Middeslborough to so do something special in the last two games. If Newcastle get a point at home to Fulham and they will be fine. That is of course they hang on for the next 15 mins

BTW, isn't it sad to see Michael Owen's career going the same way as Robbie Fowler's? Or maybe not as I know a lot of people don't like him. I just hate the fact that a player who seemed to have it all never quite did it.

Feel sorry for Owen really, don't think he wasted his talent either, he really was one of the best strikers in the world for a few years and in that way he fullfilled his potential. Problem for him of course was that he fulfilled it at such an early age which leaves a massive expectation to maintain such a level for a very long time. Injuries have then put pay to any chance of him doing this. This season is the first time I have really doubted his chances of regaining any sort of his old form, in the past he always scored goals when he was anything like fit, at the moment this doesn't seem to be the case.

He made two bad career moves, one was leaving Liverpool where they loved him, and the other was going to Newcastle, a catastrophic error. He did well at Madrid with all things considered, but if he hadn't been so worried about his England career I reckon Liverpool would have signed him back. now they have Torres and Owen plays for a relegation struggler. It's a funny ol' game, apparently.

I'm trying to think how many northern teams are left. Us, Oldham, Carlsile (only just!), possibly Scunny, there might be more, Huddersfield in fact, not terrible but definitely the lower leagues it's like it's League 1 South

TBH it means the northern side of the JPT is weaker which might help our chances of getting to wembley next season
Surely it just makes the JPT North more Southern?

Should never have played in the 2006 World Cup either, that injury was probably the killer. Still think he has a chance of being a decent Premiership striker though, will never be the at the very top because of a loss of pace but if he can just get some luck with injury and maybe a fresh start. Can see him doing well at a club like Villa or even Everton.

Don't think he offered enough besides his goals to be considered top-class for the latter part of his playing career. He really did peak when he was about 18.

Agreed, I'm more sorry for me then him. I really thought after 1998 World Cup we had a real superstar, he was decent for a few years, but never really lived up to it. Players have to work in different ways once teams come up with ways to play against them. That's what Cristiano has done, that's why he's world-class (at football and being a ****).

Owen doesn't strike me as a particularly well-rounded or pleasant individual either, so I won't be feeling pity for him, I'm afraid.

He's been like an Ian Bishop or a Bruce Reid; had decent career but had the potential for genuine greatness and was really been let down by his body.

He had a lot of problems with his hamstrings, so bulked up to stop them going "ping" every time he got to full pelt. It seemed to work and he stopped pulling them every five minutes, but it cost him that vital extra yard of pace he had (2001 was about the last time he genuinely had that kind of searing speed, certainly picked our pockets in the FA Cup final that year) so really became a goal poacher rather than a player who played off the shoulder of the last defender.

Obviously Newcastle has been a disasterous move (should've gone on loan for a season, but allowed Sir Alan to beat him up into signing permanently) and his body has been slowly betraying him over the seasons and the years.

30 in December (wow), so think we've seen the best of him now and also I reckon Bobby's goalscoring record is safe until Wayne breaks it in five or six years from now. IIRC Owen's on 40 and can't see him getting another 10 with Fab in charge.

Citeh next season, maybe? Can't see too many other clubs taking a punt on his wages with his fitness record.

Think he was a little better than decent, there was a reason that he was the first English player in twenty years to win the European player of the year. Admitedly he was never any where near as good as the likes of Ronaldo (both of them) ,Henry or a few others to win that award but he was a lot better than decent until his horrific Newcaslte career started.
