Can see origin hurting Brisbane more this year than it has previously. With 4 of your experienced players moved on, the team is going to be so much lighter on during Origin imo. Especially if both Lockyer & Wallace are selected.

Yeh exactly, I mean you take Lockyer out of the Broncos line up and we struggle at the best of times, throw Hunt, Hodges, Wallace, Folau and Thaiday into the mix and we aren't looking crash hot, combine that with the fact that our fringe players arent as good as they previously have been then we will definitely be in trouble.

On the plus side we are winning a lot of games now so if we can do into the Origin period with 3 losses or less than we should still be looking for a top 4 finish.

How Henjak managers Lockyer around origin time will be vital to you as well, can see his knee playing up with the extra football.

Allowing for Hunt, Lockyer, Hodges, Folau, Wallace, Thaiday and even Parker to be out.

1 Tom Hewitt
2 Antonio Winterstein
3 Steve Michaels
4 Alex Glenn
5 Jharal Yow Yeh
6 PJ Marsh
7 Ben Hunt [hopefully]
8 Nick Kenny
9 Andrew McCullough
10 Joel Clinton
11 Ashton Sims
12 Ben Teo
13 Lagi Setu

14 Dave Taylor
15 Josh McGuire
16 Palmer Wapau
17 Aaron Gorrell

Not too bad really.

It's no coincidence that PJ Marsh and Tom Hewitt have been playing at 1 and 6 recently.

Still, every top team has to deal with Origin. Broncos have to deal with it every year regardless of their performance  Hasn't affected the Storm in the long run the last few years.

May cost you the minor prem, but only injuries (especially to Lockyear) or a massive loss of form will cost you the title imo. You really look a cut above this year.

Manly-Storm game was the toughest for mine. Has there ever been a GF rematch so uninspiring? Both teams looking absolutely dire.

Hard to argue with that, except maybe McCulloch to 6, Gorrell to 9 and Marsh back to the bench.

Really hope Hunt gets a run, good to see him back in the Toyota Cup, hopefully we might win a few games now that we have some of the guys from last years team there.

Yeah I thought of that change regarding the hookers, but Marsh has been playing 6 in QLD Cup as has Wapau. I don't really think Wapau looks capable of playing in the halves in NRL though!

Ausage you go for Panthers hey? What do you think of Elliott's resigning until 2011?

Mixed feelings, mainly because I think it was a bit early. It's very easy to be positive after a win like that, and this just feels a little reactionary for my liking.

The last 2 years have been awful. The spoon in 07 (with what I thought was a pretty good lineup too) was obviously terrible, and last year we put in some performances that were so diabolical that it showed a complete lack of team spirit. We looked like a team with alot of potential, playing as badly as we possibly could, particularly in the second half of the year. No well coached team should ever lose like we lost to Canberra last year (especially when we had a likely finals spot as a prize), and after that game I wanted him fired on the spot. On top of that he's had us playing a very structured attack, when we have had outside backs like Jennings, Gordon, Tighe and Rooney. Game after game I'd see the ball never reach our dangerous left side, or only reach it once it was too late (the draw with the baby Broncos last year was a good example). I've never felt Elliot played to our strengths.

Having said all that he was kind of boned by Craig Gower. We lost Wallace because we couldn't afford both him and Gower, and then Gower ran off leaving us without a real halfback (barring the very young Wade Graham). Obviously alot of our issues in the last year have stemmed from not having a half. I also think there was something of a toxic culture amongst the older crowd. It doesn't fit with what I know of Priddis, Wesser, Puletua and co, but something was very wrong with our club at the back of last year, and that seems to have cleared up without most of our premiership club. Heard some poor things about Matt Adamson (Elliot's former assistant coach) as well.

We look infinitely better this year. We're scoring points, we're defending a lot better and we have guys that can break a game open (Jennings, Sammut, Coote). The team looks to have a solid culture, and have been competitive in every game. The young players appear to have respect for him, and we'll need all the help we can get keeping these guys at the club in the next few years. There are signs that whatever ME has been planning, is finally starting to come to fruition.

Also, all thing being equal, you'd much prefer a settled coaching lineup. Without a quality replacement, this positive attitude we've finally gotten might be another couple of years, and another rebuild away.

Just wish we had waited another month or two for some more results. That was our best performance, and it's easy to get carried away with positivity, but there's a long way to go this year. If we finish in the bottom four, that to me will be a failure, and I think ME would not be justified in having another two years in that case.

The thing for me is that why would they offer him a contract so soon? Its not like there are many other offers for him so they arent exactly fighting for him. Should have waiting until round 12 or 13 and see how they are going then.

Was just looking at the fixtures up until round 17 (haven't decided which days games will be played from round 18 onwards yet) and the Broncos play 11 of 16 games on a friday night. Same with the Knights & Warriors (Although not quite to the same extent, they have 9 of 16) and Sunday games, as all 3 teams have 3/4 game runs where they're playing on the same day on consecutive weekends. Reckon that's a pretty unfair advantage (even though it's not huge, when the teams are all so closely matched, it would/does make a difference imo) they have over the other teams. Although I guess it's less-so for the Warriors given they have to travel a fair bit further than the rest.

I doubt Parker will be selected in the Origin team. Also, I think McCullough will go into the halves when the origin players are away.

The only reason the Broncos play so many Friday night games is because Channel 9 loves them. Not only do the Broncos average 35000 per game, which provides a great atmosphere for the television audience, they rate very highly particularly in QLD. I can't imagine what the ratings were the other night when the Titans followed the Broncos.

I know why they play so many Friday night games, it's just that IMO it creates an unfair advantage when 2/3 teams are playing in the same time slot week-in week-out whilst the rest are all over the shop.

I think professional teams [not Eels, Sharks, Roosters] shouldn't find it too hard unless it's a Monday to Friday turn-around.

I don't think the NRL is allowed to schedule a Friday night game for a team that played on the Monday. I've always thought a Monday-Sat turn around was a bit of a disadvantage but I guess you have to make some concessions.

Yeh Mon-Friday never happens.
Teams should be professional enough to deal with a Sunday-Saturday turn around or something similar. I mean yesterday they announced the schedule for round 18, so teams know a long time in the future what days they will be playing on so they can deal with that easily enough. It's just an excuse.
