on KKR, i don't know what to say abt a team that has SRK as the owner, Bhukhaa Naan as the coach, McCullum as a captain instead of Ganguly, and Ponting is associated with it too! .... Not surprised that they are known more for their off-field activities than on-field!

MI notch up a comprehensive win .... MI finally got its openers to get their act together and it paid off. you are not playing Sachin and Sanath in a T20 game so that one of them anchors but you are playing them to bat the other team out or at least make the task easier for the others in the team

After this cool performance by Sachin, I would consider him for a place in the T20 WC team!

The WC T20 team as of today! [Mind you it can change often like the stock prices :p]

- Sehwag
- Tendulkar
- Gambhir
- Rohit
- Raina / Yuvi / ? [still open]
- Pathan Sr
- Dhoni
- Bhajji / Mishra / Ojha
- RP
- 2 from: Kamran Khan, Pathan Jr, Zak, Ishant, Munaf, ....
Yuvraj will get in purely based on last T20 world cup performance. Raina can also make the squad as Tendulkar has opted out I think. His name wasn't announced in the probables for the T20 world cup if I am not wrong. (Check the T20 world cup forum to verify whether I am right or wrong)

The IPL has to be the most annoying thing to watch on TV..I swear to god, i'd rather watch countless re-runs of "The Nanny".

If I hear "DLF Maximum" or "Citi moment of success" one more time i'm going to blow my brains out.

Haha, why do you watch it then? I feel the same about ODIs, and now I don't watch more than 1-2 a year. In fact, I'm not even sure I'll watch the WC, except maybe the finals.

Agreed.

So don't watch.

It's like when you go to the ODIs, and they play music between every ball. Bad music, at that. You still want to watch the cricket, and enjoy that part, but you couldn't think of anything more annoying than having to listen to that music.

That's how I find the constant references to the sponsors. I enjoy watching the cricket, but way moreso at the pub where they don't have sound!

I havn't been. After the first 2 games i've given up.

Oh, and the 10 minute break after 10 overs. I mean, does the IPL really expect anyone to believe that that 10 minutes (or 7 and a half..whatever) is a "tactical time out" and not just a money making ploy? Absolutely ridiculous.

I'd much prefer the music (which you hardly hear on TV anyway) than the horribly forced commentary. Theres a really good article on cricinfo on this exact subject at the moment, makes some great points.

they have already said it is to generate more money by showing commercial you don't need to be rocket scientist to know that

I don't mind SRK and do bellieve that he is a very intellegent actor who markets himself near perfectly to get maximum returns out of the Indian marker. I am in the same boat as you.

However, last year, they sold jerseys with Khan written at the back (promoting himself as the 12th man of the team) and ****s still bought it. There was no jersey with Ganguly, Ishant or Akhtar written at the back. A real shame. Saved me loads of money though as it seemed illogical to buy the Khan jersey.
OT but I find the mainstream Indian actors/artists as some sort of cowards who take refuge in PC and very rarely willing to speak their mind. Not that I want them to speak out against anything or think it is is their responsibility, but then it makes me cringe when they tell us to buy pepsi cola and try to market themselves as some paragon of creativity when they are afraid to take stand on little issues.

Wrong or Right, Give me a Sean Penn or Dennis Miller any day over these Khans and Bachchans.

Watching Tendulkar and Sanath Bat, simply amazing, what a treat. :) Sachin's six off Sharma was cracking and the Six of Ajantha will remain in memory forever.

IPL should implement Midseason Transfers/Trades or player loans. I think it would it would spice it even more

Dennis Miller is about as mainstream as Khan? Are you kidding me? The equivalent of Khan and Bachchan is someone like Tom Cruise and Harrison Ford. And just look at how long Cruise has tried to hide his scientology background, and the kinda of **** Mel Gibson got into with his drunken tirade. Maybe 5 people out of 30 would've heard of Dennis Miller in a room in American - in India, 29 out of 30 would've heard of Khan, and the last guy is living under a rock. Sean Penn isn't in the same category either. Besides, all he spouts is the standard liberal Hollywood tripe. Not that I disagree with it, just that he's not saying anything new.

Any and all celebrities have their PR guys strictly controlling their behaviour. It's natural, and it's ubiquitous.

He definitely looked a bowler rather than a batsman turning his arm over. He was getting it down at good nip and pitching at a respectable length and line. Whereas Nayar was gifted his wickets (not that I'm complaining since I have kept him in my fantasy cricket team in the hope he'd recreate the Flintoff heroics), Shukla seemed to earn his through keeping the lid on batsmen who were, up until his arrival, unstoppable.
Nayar being 'gifted' wickets is a subjective issue, as he took top-order wickets and bowled straight- Hodge is no pushover and Ganguly's wicket is always earned, but then again, he bowled rather slowly and the batting side was weak, and struggling to chase a near-impossible total. That said, his performance (and also Shukla's) should open up an option for batsmen bowling seam-up for the national team, as the Indians can then play two spinners (best way ahead) at home as well as away. They've shown a lot more promise than some so-called fast bowlers in the frame for national selection, though Shukla's out of it as he can't score enough runs even for Number Seven in an Indian Test team, though Harbhajan's batting form also opens another option.

Evermind, the little igloo that you painted represents only a tiny part of India where 29 out of 30 would know a khan and a bachchan. I can show you neighhoods where people have no clue and the dont care. Dennis Miller is big in what he does and anyone with slight interest in standup comedy or Hollywood probably has heard his name, and like Penn at least has a stand, Liberal or otherwise.

Man, I've heard some major bull**** on this forum.

But comparing the popularity of Dennis Miller in America with SRK or Bachchan in India takes the cake.

Get back to me when Dennis Miller sells out venues in Japan, Singapore, Africa...**** EVERYWHERE IN THE WORLD and there are over a hundred fansites dedicated to him from Germany alone. Get back to me when Dennis Miller has his own TV channel (Bachchan), owns his personal basketball franchise (SRK owning KKR), and pays the most tax of any entertainer in America (SRK) - more than Oprah or Spielberg.

Show me a neighbourhood in India that hasn't heard of SRK and I'll sell you my rooster that defecates gold nuggets for $1. John Stevens, one of today's great calligraphers, is also "big in what he does" but I would be insane to compare his popularity with even a Dennis Miller's, let alone an SRK's.

Pretty much a by-product of the growing ineffectiveness of mainstream advertising, companies have to look for more integrated ways of getting their brand across like product placement.

But of course they can't overdo it like they have because people switch off, the competition loses integrity and the thing starts to become a parody, like BASEketball.

Great to see Gibbs in form and show some mature. In the recent past he would have just hit his way out of trouble when the wheels slightly fell off but he played it perfectly yesterday.

Deccan are doing great considering they are compelled to play a poor cricketer in Dwayne Smith. Imagine them with Symonds and a top four of Gilly, Gibbs, Rohit and Roy.

Been very impressed by Edwards as well, seems to be stringing consecutive good games together and his pace has been alarmingly quick at time.

Teams batting second under lights in this tournament seem to have no chance of winning and often post low scores. Is this coincidence or something unique to the SA pitches?

/very difficult to chase at night at coastal venues esp at the NCG.
Inland venues should be better though.
