I don't get why people are paying any attention to this Atul Sharma bloke. Ian Pont is hardly helping matters by drawing attention to him by giving interviews in forums and what not. This guy hasn't even bowled in a gully match, let alone a club match for ages. If he is promising, that promise is yet to be shown on the field. Till then, he is nothing.

We would, if we knew what to show respect to. It is hard to figure what to do with some guy in a video running with a tire strapped to his waist, when youtube is kind of awash with people pulling trucks and planes with their bodies.

If, as claimed, Atul Sharma can bowl a cricket ball at ~ 100mph (within ICC bowling action rules) - a video of that would be nice. 105mph on a speed gun certainly will settle most doubts, even if it involves Harmison-grade accuracy to account for the fact that he may not be the finished goods yet.

Problem with the Atul Sharma case is exactly a complete absence of factual base. All we have, with due respect to the real or purported Ian Pont, are a bunch of assertions - not the same thing.

Here is a video. Probably not at 105mph. Just a build up for the guy. Sorry if posted already..

Nobody among the majority suggests that he should be in the team straightaway. If you ask me, there's no reason to change the Zaheer-Ishant combination, as it's just right. If anything, the team has too many specialist seamers, and should trim down on that- accommodate a spinner and a batsman who can bowl seam-up. However, this bloke has looked a lot more promising than some Indian pacers, including some current regulars, who seem to be going about it in a very leisurely manner- he has a lot more intensity. While he shouldn't play rightaway, he can, however, finish a few FC seasons on top of the charts and then he'll have a chance.
There are many indian fast bowlers competing to play international cricket,Its good if this
guy also joins the pool.

They're all largely useless. If he adds as much value as Zaheer or Ishant, on bowling alone, he should be considered.

R.P Singh useless ? sreesanth useless? munaf patel useless? Kumar ?All of them give the team
great options in different conditions and have performed and won us games and They are all young and learning and are much better bowlers than zaheer was when he was of their age on subcontinent. If zaheer or ishant get injured we will not miss them with others always doing well when needed ,use you head before making stupid comments.

Pretty much.

And you would miss Zaheer and Ishant, very, very much. They're a good combination and there is no way the others you listed could ever equal them (bar Sreesanth who has some ability).

I Think you are mistaking them for newzealand bowlers :laugh::laugh:,
Munaf patel has done well in all test match she has played and in odis also,
R.P singh has been great in england, was good in australia and southafrica ,He struggled
in indian conditions where most young bowlers struggle,R.p singh is better than zaheer was at 23 and Munaf does his job well so india is winning in all conditions.India has never missed any bowler in the last few years -when zaheer got injured in australia rp, stepped up before hand sreesanth
was doing well and he got injured ishant came in,.

RP and Munaf Patel aren't useless. RP was there in England for us to win the series when Ishant hadn't made his debut. RP has been poor since then but in conditions abroad, he is a handful as any one can see even from the little T20 he is bowling in the IPL.

Munaf is not useless. He can extract bounce and can be troublesome on his day. He is just inconsistent but that doesn't measn that he can't play.

All these players add depth and bench strength to the squad. In these overload of cricket times bench strength cannot be underestimated. Some one is always injured and requires to be replaced.

People forget how difficult it is bowling in india ask Brett lee or stuart clark.

wow... I don't understand why people have to be rude to Ian Pont here... I have no idea why he has to take this so personally either, if it is really him that is posting here...

If the guy is any good, he will come through.. If not, he will fizzle out... We don't know anything yet so why keep talking as though we do? That applies for both sides of the arguers here..

I at least wasn't being rude to Pont but I do think that giving a few interviews on a few forums is going to do absolutely nothing for the case of Sharma. If he is any good, performances will show in the field as you say. It is way too early to say.

yeah.. but we live a world of hype... for good or bad, people believe in hyping up players.. It happens all the time, so why not let that be? This has to be the first time that a player who has not even played grade cricket has gotten so much discussion in the cricketing world... As they say, there is no such thing as bad publicity... All publicity is good publicity and this guy is certanly getting a lot of it. Guess if the intent was to get a lot of guys to talk about him and get him noticed, Pont and his people have definitely succeeded at Bradmanesque levels...

They haven't succeeded at any level. Believe it or not, internet cricket forums are a very small portion of the cricketing watching world. Sharma hasn't been covered by any news media or by any thing with a penny's worth of significance. This is just mockblicity, not publicity. Sharma is being brought up for discussion for nothing. This is different from Shane Warne announcing that Kamran Khan is the next best thing in the IPL as news media actually covered what Warne said. Pont should have approached the news media if he really wanted some publicity.

EDIT - I should add that I am not saying that Ian Pont did this for publicity, just answering back to you that this is not any Bradmanesque level of publicity or even a gram of it. I have nothing against Pont and for all we know, he might have just been giving a few interviews on a few forums because a few forums asked him for an interview. Such reactions are only natural from people as they will become curious when some one talks up a player. Pont shouldn't have given those interviews in my humble opinion as they serve no purpose either publicity wise or otherwise.

Yeah everyone is acting way too ****ty in this thread.

People hyping up Atul Sharma have lost the plot, but the people having a go at "Pont" and whomever really are going over the top. Why are you all so angry? First you didn't believe he existed, then he did exist, and now you're asking to see him bowl in a match.

And with regards to "all this hype", tbh when this cricket thread shows up as one of the first search results on Google, clearly there isn't much "hype".

No I'm well aware they're Indian thank you.

R.P Singh is not a good bowler. Potentially maybe, but potential doesn't equal good (see Tim Southee and The first part of Mitchell Johnsons career, also Shaun Tait).

Munaf, lets face it, he only bowls well when he can either A) be bothered and B) happen to bowl well on the days he can be bothered. When on song he has good pace and accuracy, but there's also the many, many times he trundles in at half arsed pace and either bowls the same length all day so the batsmen get used to it or sprays it.

R.P singh has won us test matches abroad and won us the t20 world cup so its not like southee who has done nothing.Munaf patel bowls good line and length and will be useful on seaming tracks in test matches his problem has been odis but still he also had 3 good series before the nz series which were played on good wickets and its not like R.P singh does not have good work ethic so he would not be able to fulfil his potential.

Meh, 'Pont' came in with an ultra-aggressive attitude (link) and it all went pear shaped from there. That's probably why people are being rude to him as opposed to the regular courtesy showed here (most of the time).
