FFS just seen the first out of the two CC games they are showing is Somerset - Durham at Taunton. Will be a great advertisement for championship cricket...

again, realise the 'show the champions thing' but given they are probably limited to that week (the test starts the next week) would Hampshire - Sussex not be a better game, or even Yorkshire-Worcestershire for the Vaughan angle/?

Haha just looking at the England fixtures on cricinfo and found this  playing at Grahamstown....

Lol - is that part of a joke article or is someone going to get fired.

He's in a no-win situation on roads against bowling attacks like that. He's in a no-lose situation when the pitch has a bit in it and he's up against a good bowling attack with a bit of pressure. We already expect him to do nothing substantial in the latter situation. Until he does that a lot more regularly he shouldn't be in the England side.
Yes it will be nice to see him do it in more testing conditions, but we needn't have to go through all that everytime he bats exceptionally well in good conditions. He can do no more than he has in the opening game, end of.

Very disappointed by Essex's collapse today, the line-up they had out, even minus Bopara, should have built a more imposing total than 194. Hopefully not a sign of things to come. An early breakthrough from Masters offers hope of bowling Derby out equally as cheaply.

Predictably comfortable win for Hants, knocking off 106 for the loss of three wickets. Michael Carberry with 58, hope he finds a bit more form this season, while a fit John Crawley will no doubt help in 2009.

Despite Leicester slipping to 19-5, the weather will have the main say in the game heading for a draw at Grace Road. All-rounder Allenby with a rearguard half century. The combination of youth and experience in Leicester's top 6 not paying dividends today.

James Hildreth put Ian Bell into the shade today with a fantastic 191* so far. Another game heading for a draw thanks to a typical Taunton track and bad weather.

Good start for Hants, will go down on Sunday now instead. Lumb starts the season in fantastic fashion with a pair but apart from that good start from that very encouraging performances. Problem is obviously going to be the batting but North will help with that, just need Adams and Carberry to have a good season and maybe even Ervine.

Hildreth 303* for Somerset. I know Taunton is flat, but 300 is a massive effort. Would have to be a chance of an England Lions call up at least.

Panesar 25 overs without a wicket and counting during the sort of scenario where you need your spinner to force some wickets to get the win.

Panesar up to 34 overs and counting without a wicket.

Bell getting a second opportunity to rack up some soft runs (Trescothick's even had a bowl)

All a bit dull with none of the three (non-useless) northern counties playing.

Couldn't agree more, always been an incredibly talented young player. He could definately play test cricket one day in my opinion.

Hildreth's been a mediocre underachiever for many years now. I'll be rather surprised if he finally cracks it, but it's not unheard-of.
