If Albertus and van der Merwe were both going in full flight it could make for some very interesting viewing.

What's the likely Aussie team for the first ODI?

I'm thinking they look pretty appealing at 11/10 for the series but not if they're fielding a second XI again.

State Regular
Micheal Clarke
Brad Haddin (k)
Ricky Ponting (c)
David Hussey
Micheal Hussey
Callum Fergusion
Cameron White
James Hopes
Mitchill Johnson
Nathan Bracken
Ben Laughlin
Brett Geeves (12th man)

I think it will look like this tbh.

I reckon Hopes will bat 7 and they'll play 4 quicks, or hopefully Hauritz.

I doubt we'll play a spinner in Durban. David Hussey can tweak anyway.
Day nighter, so two spinners can work during the day but once the lights come on, it should be just seam all the way. The likes of Bracken could really get the ball to move big if Aus are fortunate enough to bat first.

Win the toss bat well and the game is won. Like Newlands, Kingsmead under lights is nigh on impossible for a successful chase.

So why don't they have day matches at those venues at the weekend and have the day/night fixtures at places such as Joburg and Centurion where the sea is not a factor?.

No idea.

Anyhow, the South African side for tomorrow...

Graeme Smith (capt), Herschelle Gibbs, Hashim Amla, AB de Villiers, JP Duminy, Albie Morkel, Mark Boucher, Johan Botha, Morne Morkel, Dale Steyn, Makhaya Ntini

Kallis is injured but they hope he will be back for Sunday's game at Centurion. Good to see 3 real seamers get the gig but not sure about Ntini over Parnell. His record at Kingsmead is rank.

Imran Tahir is now eligible for selection. You think the selectors will rotate out Botha for one of the games?

Hopefully the series would be done and dusted by then. /ignorant SA remark

North should start ahead of Ferguson. His off-spinners could be important given that Clarke is unlikely to be bowling alot.

Geeves should definately start ahead of Laughlin as well.

Whats up with Tait BTW??

North should start ahead of Ferguson.
As I've said before, I don't find this particularly likely. North wasn't even in the squad until Voges pulled out and I don't think Voges was going to be selected ahead of Ferguson based on his Dussey-standard left arm pies.

Absolutely no chance of SA rotating out the skipper for a newbie spinner. And SA's record of picking two spinners ain't strong....

All true. But the selectors could still have a change of mind, as i said his bowling could be useful.

You know why Tait isn't on tour?

Because he's ****/unfit/injured etc.
Saw him last night at the state awards dinner, mention was made of his injuries a few times so I'd suggest the tendonitis is still affecting him. Realistically, he'd have been in the SA Shield Side if it wasn't.

As much as I love watching him bowl in full flight, he shouldn't be anywhere near green and gold colours until he gets some overs in a red cap.

Gillespie calls for Johnson to be rested

Makes sense IMO. Look at the bigger picture here, and with all due respect to Pakistan, who cares about a few ODIs in Abu Dhabi and Dubai when you can give him a proper break and win the Ashes. Lets me honest, would any Australian fans really give a **** Australia lost a few meaningless ODIs (although the media would paint a different story)? I wouldn't.
