IPL to be shifted outside India

Yeah don't like the looks of IPL in England. It would be damn wet and clash with the Windies tour. Would get the best crowds though barring UAE and possibly Sri Lanka.

Weather turned out to be the principal factor that swayed the BCCI officials, a bulk of whom had been in favour of England till this morning when the realisation occurred that rain could seriously affect "as many as 70% of the matches" in the Twenty20 tournament which runs from April 10 to May 24.

It took 24 hours for them to think of the weather in England ?? Well what else can you expects from these jokers.
70% is a bit of a joke of an estimate though. They clearly just pulled that figure straight out of their proverbial bums.

Would actually really enjoy the IPL being held here. Say what you want about T20 as a form of cricket, but when you're actually at the game it's great fun. Not a chance it'll happen of course, and for good reason.

The Cricinfo article popepouri linked to was a pretty convincing case for it being held in South Africa- the rain, the security, the government's willingness. Seems an easy decision, so I won't be surprised one bit when it somehow ends up in England.

Idea opportunity now that the IPL is being staged outside India to increase the quota of ‘foreign’ players. It doesn’t deprave Indian stalwarts or indeed young Indian talent from getting a gig, it just means the has-beens and the never-beens are gone. The IPL last year from a cricketing perspective was almost totally forgettable (McCullum’s debut assault aside) and if you want to entice the English or South African crowds in, you need to ditch the likes of Sunil Joshi.

Also one of the good things from a TV (or my case, a 19 inch computer screen) spectator point of view is that the wickets in England or South Africa won’t be as 'boring' as the ones ditched up during the first IPL, where 200 was par and a good economy rate was anything under 8. In the Republic, sometimes 100 is a competitive total in a 20/20.

Depends how many would have been played in Manchester or Derby, I suppose. That would have been great, watching them run for cover at the Racecourse with a blizzard hot on their heels

Your faith in officialdom is totally justified. Perhaps Hakon can put a case for it to be held in Norway.

Glad the ECB won't be running about like headless chickens with the IPL, there's already more than enough organising to be going on with this summer with the T20 world cup and the Ashes.

That said, am gutted I won't get to see any games. I'm desitined to never see Warney play live.

Looks like Flintoff and KP are now only available for 2 weeks but they'll try an schedule as many fixtures in those 2 weeks as possible to make up for that

Good decision to have it in SA, England would have been a disaster with the weather and pitches that time of year.

Who's this Atul Sharma? I cricinfod him and hes a 37yr old who played one game for railways scoring 3.

Going to be very interesting as all those spinners won't be nearly as effective in SA, though I'm not certain what the pitches are like in SA that time of year?

Has not played a domestic game yet. Ian Pont says that he can regularly bowl over 100mph. Rajasthan Royals signed him up for this season's IPL. He is 21 years old.

SA's ability to host an amazing global event cannot be over estimated, I'm glad we got it. The cricket no doubt will suck, but it's a positive in terms of our economy and it should give us a good deal of positive exposure
