IPL to be shifted outside India

Think you're right there. IIRC Sky made some threatening noises about one of the ODIs Scotland or Ireland staged being shown on (again, IIRC) the BBC a year or two back. Don't know what happened to resolve it in the end.

It could even be a bargaining chip for Sultana. They lost one of the EPL broadcast rights pacakges to Sky in the last bidding which has greatly reduced their viability, so it could be they offer up some of the UK-hosted IPL rights for more EPL games.
Not sure about that. Football >>>>> IPL cricket in terms of interest, surely?

Just signed a fresh one I think, so could be ages. CBA to check tho.
If they've signed a fresh one, I'd be inclined to think Sky have absolutely no say in this matter. Assuming the ECB are still interested in an EPL, they'll be selling the rights to that separately, won't they? Neither of them would have agreed to include a potential EPL in the fresh contract until it was completely fleshed out. So if Sky do not have the rights to an English EPL on English soil, they'd surely be on shaky ground objecting to an IPL there.

Anyway, its all moot. Seems like SA have their noses in front now.

Yeah, probably, but it's all about different "revenue streams" I imagine. If you're a football fan and like to watch it live you're almost certain to have Sky Sports anyway because it carries the majority of live games, but if you're an IPL fan you currently have to go to Setanta.

Sky carrying the IPL would possibly mean more customers for them.

Only have to look out my window to see the biggest problem tho; it's ****ing lashing it down here today.
Just started here too, not that far away from London. Can only imagine what Lalit Modi will think if he gets off the plane into this! Absolutely chucking it down and freezing cold! (Mind you, it has been lovely the whole of the last week.)

How many cricket fans that have the means to subscribe to Sky sports but currently don't would be swayed over by IPL coverage? Not many I'd think. If you have the cash and like cricket and aren't already paying for all the international cricket they offer plus the county matches would the IPL really get you to sign up?

It's not raining but it is pretty chilly here in Berkshire. Fine for walking the dog whilst wearing a jumper but I wouldn't fancy standing at fine leg for a couple of hours.

I don't agree that they are moving it because of the international players. Even if a number of them opted-out of the event the security would still need to be high, with all the big Indian stars present. And even with some of them opting out, I think it would still be a financial success.

I am sorry but I dont see why anyone from SA/Aus/Eng/NZ/WI would participate in the IPL considering the security issue adn government not ready to provide the forces for the security. Pakistani players are out always that leaves only the SL player. I dont think the IPL will be same without all these big international stars.

I hate Narendra Modi so much. The biggest **** around .
Indeed.

BJP embarrassed: Guj CM, top cop disagree over IPL

Gujarat Director General of Police SS Khandawala had told the IPL that no games could have been held in the state in April.Khandawala had written to the Gujarat Cricket Association that he would not be able to provide security till May 3.

This contradicts Modi’s statement who had said that it was a shame that India had to hold the games on foreign soil.“The Central Government made a wrong decision. This proves that India is an unsafe country. I question the Government, if they cannot give security to 11 cricket players then how do they intend to provide security to 111 crore Indians?”

Hollow Jingoism is his forte and he continues to show how far he is from the reality .

Been bone dry up here for weeks, pretty much since the time the soft southerners whimpered because it happened to snow a bit.

Weather turned out to be the principal factor that swayed the BCCI officials, a bulk of whom had been in favour of England till this morning when the realisation occurred that rain could seriously affect "as many as 70% of the matches" in the Twenty20 tournament which runs from April 10 to May 24.

It took 24 hours for them to think of the weather in England ?? Well what else can you expects from these jokers.

News channels questioning why Sri Lanka wasn't considered.
They have got a kind of civil war against LTTE going on at the moment. So, security might be an issue there too. And the no. of grounds in SL is very few iirc.

This could get messy. I dont think England should touch this.
Can all the players swim?

April showers aren't named after the England cricket team - they are called that because it's damned wet in April in England (ok, it's damned wet every month, but especially April).

If the IPL was played over here, there's every danger that the whole thing could turn out to be an extremely damp squib.

You're probably right regarding the average English cricket fan. I was thinking of ex-pat & first generation Indian cricket followers primarily tho. IPL coverage might in theory hawk a few more Sky subscriptions to them them that English internationals/domestic stuff might not.

Sky carry most of the Indian internationals too though.

Stupid idea, better off cancelling it - I mean it's the IPL - Indian Premier League, not the South African or English Premier League.

Fancy arranging the tournament when the general elections are held?
