IPL to be shifted outside India

I don't think there will be a problem with a fair few crowds due to no local teams at England because of how popular T20 is back there. RSA may not be that hot a venue but you never know. This is T20. Got packed houses in Pakistan for local domestic games.
Watching another country's domestic teams slog it out in a foreign country ranks pretty low on the entertainment metre

However, SA has the advantage of being in a similar time-zone to India and this is really a made-for-tv event

if its money what matters then second edition is already a bigger hit than first
There is more to it than that. The management has not been the sharpest (diffrent decisions on this season and the aborted Champions League, ICL clashes etc). Also the money isnt guaranted and last season was played before the economic downtun.

If this goes ahead in England then I dont know what grounds they would use. Its in April right? That could get very cold and windy.

Very surprised the whole tournament is shifting lock, stock & barrel. There's a case to skip some venues from what I've seen in the English media, but the whole dealy? Bit of a shock.
they require around 1.5 million para militry force to monitor election...this was always on the cards

Aha there you are :) You are a rare sight BB.

Coming to IPL, you know its politics time in India and IPL is affected by it too. Modi has run foul of the establishment and the ruling Congress party and is being supported by BJP the main opposition party.

I suppose Modi is in the kind of company that suits him the most, the one with clean white clothes and grubby, murky, money tainted reputations :)

If it's in April, I think it would be pretty stupid to play the whole thing in England
Yeah and the English season will have started.

What grounds will they use? Scarborough is nice, but in April?

Cant see the IPL in SA being successful either.

they are saying the secomnd match will satrt @ 8PM IST which will mean the game will finsh around 7.30 - 8 PM in england will the light be good at this time around..not many grounds in england are having floodlight also rite..think it will be more likely SA

Probably the very worst time it could happen from an economic point of view, though I'd imagine it'd be back as strong as ever in the third year, especially as absence makes the heart grow fonder and all of that. Would also give the competition a foundation internationally, especially if it's held in England, so if managed well it could be the start of something much larger than what was originally thought.

Also kudos to the BCCI for making the tough decision and putting saftey above everything else (if it was their decision).

The middle-east is also in the race to host the IPL. Cricinfo has updated the article.

wise decision..... if they are going to go ahead with it.. better outside than within India.

BCCI don't really care about the whether nobody turns at the ground to watch the match as long as people in India are watching it on tv....
If it is success overseas than they'll obviousally go with the option of playing few matches overseas maybe the semi final or somthing like that.

I was looking forward to IPL but when the government said they couldn't gurantee enough police force... was happy for it to be cancelled but now thats its back on..... thats pretty good news :D

It'll be about 1/100th the spectacle outside of India. If they couldn't work it around the election they should've just waited a year. Disappointed with this.

the money at stake is too much for them to give it miss..and the best thing out of it is at least around 50-60 local players will get to tour to SA and play in all those famous ground which they might never have done
