In 04-05 we had a good side (Iain Hume, Ryan Taylor, Paul Hall, Mark Rankine, Gareth Roberts etc) and were challenging for promotion all season. Basically it was between Luton, Hull & us for the two automatic spots.
Well Hull beat us at our place in March to pretty much nail us in for 3rd place, they cemented this on Easter Saturday. We were 2-1 up at Chesterfield and they were 1-0 down somewhere (I think it was Doncaster, might just be making that up). It was about 4.50 and all of a sudden you're thinking, well, we might still catch them...except that both Chesterfield & Hull scored last-gasp equalisers and that was that
Well anyway, a couple of weeks later I was on the Tranmere forum (won't post there naymore, too many Birkenhead ****heads) and I see a thread, "Hull go into administration!"
So I opened it, and all there was was a link with the same title, I clicked on it and am taken to a news site, that does indeed have the headline "Hull go into administration"
So my phone is in my hand straight away, I was dialling one of the lads pretty much there and then, and then I realised that actually it was one of the Rugby League sides that had gone into admin (I think Brumby supports Hull FC, so he might be able to confirm) and an awful, awful trick had been played on us all
