I'd go with the same 5. Strange thing is today morning I was wondering what point marks the start of the modern age from the cricket pov, and I'd settled on SA's re-entry into International cricket.Basically a poll for the best 5 cricketers who were a part of 90's and 00's.In no particular order
Sachin
Lara
Warne
Murali
Kallis
Yeah, I'd probably go this, on my own personal opinion.Warne
Lara
Tendulkar
Ambrose
Gilchrist
/Somehow I accidentally voted for 6.
McGrath
Warne
Murali
Gilchrist
Lara
------
Ponting
Tendulkar
------
the rest.
Honestly, Warne and Murali are the two greatest spinners ever. Gilchrist changed the way the game is played. McGrath is the best quick bowler of the era, and probably in the top 2 quicks of the last 100 years. Lara was the best of the three Great batsmen of the era.
The problem is that they're first past the post polls. When rating players you really want a preferential system IMO. Or at least a graded system. That way you would be able to give bowlers like Akram the respect he deserves, without having to imply that he's one of the best five players of the last two decades.Wasim has 3 votes. Apart from me and Andyc (who's voted for everyone anyway) there's only one other person who's voted for him. Pretty ludicrous really.
MInd you I have to say I'm starting to tire of these polls.
Tell me it's not true. As a batsman, but as a cricketer no way.Look, I'm not a massive Ponting fan but he's better than Kallis.
You're becoming a joke with your obsession with fast bowlers SS - Walsh is a better player than Tendulkar??I picked McGrath, Ambrose, Walsh, Waqar and Wasim.
