**** me dead I love Test cricket. Can't wait till the India series gets to the Tests.

North mighty impressive here. They can't make him play unless he knows he can score off it.

Haha same. I can't wait for the ashes. I love watching the ashes and test matches played in england.

North doing a Hussey here. Hopefully a century can cement his spot even when Symonds comes back. I think the Dussey boat has sailed. :( what a waste!

What's the general feeling of picking McDonald ahead of a more genuine bowling option? It's a strange choice IMO, especially considering Johnson is pretty much an all rounder as of late.

North's innings has been one of the most impressive Australian debut innings in recent times, it's been:

- done against the best fast bowling side in the world
- done in bowling friendly conditions
- done away from home
- done with the match very much in the balance

SA are in a heap of trouble - the wicket is still doing quite a bit, 350 on the board and few runs to come yet

Been roundly slaughtered from what I've seen. And rightly so.

The thing is McDonald isn't a very good bowler at all. He doesn't have enough pace, and only bowls at around 125kmp. I don't know much about him but I can't see how he helps the Aussie team. Unless he is a very good batsmen, and looking at his stats he isn't. I would liken his bowling to a slower version of Jesse Ryder.

Up there with the selection of Cameron White as a specialist bowler in India. Absurd selection and the sooner the selectors are replaced, the better for Australian cricket.

Exhibit A in the Case of People vs Unnecessarily Extending the Batting Order Like England did with Giles in 06-07 has just been tendered.
Yeah, another one to chalk up to Agarkar's Law.

If you pick a bowler based on his batting, he won't score any runs. Calling McDonald a bowler is stretching it though, I guess.

Johnson done a decent job giving North some vital support. Good aprtnership for the Aussies, and they've certainly surpassed any total SA had in mind when they rocked up this morning. Another momentum shift, that continually switches between these two teams. Australia will have the impetus when they come out to bowl, and Smith and McKenzie will have a crucial job of blunting what will be a fired up Aussie attack. Interesting day ahead.
