***Official*** Australian Domestic Season 2008/09

Mister Wright

Cricket Web: All-Time Legend
Obviously haven't seen Simpson bowl.

"Yeah, I'm the best captaincy option for Queensland."

"Ganguly once rated me the best spinner in Australia."

"James Hopes caused the current economy crisis. Who can live on one out of every six."

State Vice-Captain
Yeah IMO Manou's the better player.

Think about where this player was around this time last year.

B Casson 4 0 34 0 8.50

Has there ever been a player who's career has regressed so far in the space of one year? God even Greg Mail and Dom Thornley bowled 29 overs between them.

Give you one guess at what his nickname is.

From Waaia in country Victoria. Bowls at pretty good pace, and gets good late hoop. When he gets it right, can bowl to a FC standard. Has his days where he's not all that great though. Reckon a game here woudl be good for him, not a bad long term FC prospect.
Sounds a good prospect, atleast he grabbed a wicket today. All I know about Waaia is the annual tractor pull, hopefully the town may have two reasons to celebrate now.

Reasons for Victoria going without Holland? Or the younger Pattinson? Guess the selectors see this as a good opportunity to test out someone new.

Nathan Hauritz, Brad Hogg and Gavin Robertson after their first call ups were playing grade cricket the next season. Aleast he still playing State cricket. The curse of mediocre spinner. Harsh on Hogg, but he was back then.

Or in Gavin Robertson's case, essentially playing grade cricket whilst getting the international call up.

Back on Beau Casson. He has 4 wickets from 7 games at 115.75. That international call up may have been the worst thing to happen to his career prospects. Surely his fall must be largely a mental thing. He was largely bowling 6 long hops an over before Australian selection, how can he have gone backwards?

James Pattinson is injured, wont play the rest of the season.

It not like he is the first player for that to happen to.

Even Shaun Marsh had a similar season with the bat. It just that he got another chance with Australia and kicked on. Guys like Crosgrove and Pomerbash all had similar things happen to them as well. Pomerbash was playing for Australia 12 months ago and now isn't can't make their OD or Twenty20 sides.

It just with batsmen (and seamers to an extent), there is quite a few other decent prospects they get forgotten about. Whereas with spinners, everyone looking for next big thing. Note all the talk when Bailey took wickets last week and the lack of talk of Cutting when he took wickets (even if most of them were lower order).

This season has been par for course for Casson, he just hasn't has those couple games when he looked brillant and took a bag full.

Mike W will he pattinson be avialable for the under 19 series against india,or is he too old now,and has his innjury ruled him out.

Some exciting batting occuring throughout the country today.

Jonathan Wells is closing in on his century down at Bellerive. Fair bit of hype surrounding this guy, Tasmania really need an opener to step up. Looks to be the patient type who looks to slowly build an innings, pretty good trait as a first class opener.

The bowlers wicket in Perth doesn't seem to have eventuated. Vogues has bowled far too many overs for the standard of spin bowling he provides. South Australia look to be building quite a dangerous lead now. Credit to Manou, very valuable cricketer down the middle/lower order. One of his better seasons.

Then Chris Hartley, best form of his career right now. Really needs to back it up next season. He must be such a frustration for Queensland supporters.

Chris Harry Hartley - my CA operatives tell me he's a smokey for the Ashes tour.
Hardly a suprise after his late season run. Would prefer Hartley to tour over any other keeper, very safe behind the stumps. Exactly what you need in your back-up keeper, I don't care if he can or cannot bat.

Think Hopes may go if he keeps this up (and if McDonald doesn't do anything special).

Don't know if it's been mentioned but Jaques has been shocking since his return, Rogers would probably get a look in front of him at this stage.

Agreed on Jaques. Even the runs he has made have been very scratchy. I have seen him bat twice since his return and he just looks a player totally out of touch. Even Brad Hodge's little tweakers troubled him in the last game against Victoria. A good stint plundering county attacks would do him alot of good.

Enjoying how Hopes has picked up four poles, with Hartley catching three of them. Most of the recent discussion has centred on these two.
