***Official*** Sri Lanka In Pakistan

Jakester1288

International Regular
Sri Lanka finally make the declaration. 644/7dec, Pakistan have no chance of winning from here one would feel. However, there is still a chance of a result with Murali and Mendis to bowl.

Sri Lanka get around 23 overs at the Pakistanis before stumps.

There's nothing wrong with SL batting on as long as they did, so long as they score quickly.

Those extra runs will be needed if Pakistan manage to survive any length of time.

I believe that SL have 2 quality spin bowlers who will not tire too easily, so batting long in the first innings makes sense.

Karachi (PTI): After Sri Lanka piled up commanding 406 for three on the opening day of the first Test, Pakistan skipper Younis Khan has expressed his displeasure about the placid pitch, which is lacking any tinge of green at National Stadium here.

Sources close to the new captain told PTI that Younis fumed when he saw the pitch on the first day and has since been trying to know who ordered the grass on the pitch to be shaved off completely. The visitors made merry on a flat batting track with the skipper Mahela Jayawardene and Thilan Samaraweera hitting a ton each.

"Younis is not happy because he wanted a more lively pitch for the Test with some pace but he was surprised to see a flat track on the first day of the match," one source said. He said Younis was planning to have a talk with chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board Ejaz Butt after the match asking for the total authority on cricket matters.

"Younis is unhappy that despite his assertion for a lively track the curator of the board did the opposite. What is worrying for him is that with the ball starting to turn, Pakistan will find it hard to survive," the source said. Younis also had issues with the national selectors over the composition of the 15-member squad announced for the Test.

Sources say that Younis is slowly realising that he needs complete authority to counter a troika formed by the chief selector Abdul Qadir, coach Intikhab Alam and associate coach Aaqib Javed.

"These three were also responsible for convincing the PCB chairman to oust Shoaib Malik as captain after the ODI series loss to Sri Lanka last month," the source said.

I don't know how long such an outspoken captain would survive in Pakistan cricket, Pakistani pitches have been docile for ages and this is something they should worked on a long time ago, but they obviously aren't interested in doing so.

Younis has already run into trouble previously, if I'm not wrong, when he hastily resigned because he couldn't stand the management or smth.

Pitches in domestic cricket has been quite lively for the past few years, the last 2 skippers had a deliberate strategy to make docile pitches thats why we saw slow and low tracks, Younis when he came on board the first statement he made was that he would like to see lively tracks but unfortunately the opposite has happened for this game.

Pakistan strength is fast-bowling, whereas Sri Lanka' strength is its spin bowling, so won't have hurt Pakistan one bit, had they left some grass on the pitch, i guess that might happen in the next game, but this test has been an awful advertisement for test cricket, and its pitches like these that are really hurting test cricket.
