Benaud Quits

Benaud what a champ. He actually went to the same school as me. They have some memorobilia from when he was a boy. A desk with the inscription "Benaud was here, 22BC".

Apparently it's inaccurate, carbon dating showed the inscription was made around 32BC.

Also, James Brayshaw needs to stick the footy show. I lost all respect for him when watching him host Wipeout.

It'll be really weird without the 'morning everyone', it was a shame when he retired over here a few years ago.

I really think they need to do something about the Australian coverage, it's shocking. Not having three commentators at once would be a good start. And having some overseas commentators (proper ones) would be much better so there isn't as much fawning every time the Aussies do something good.

Nah, Eddie Whatsisname likes the AFL three-commentators thingy apparently, and C9 has always been geared around an all-Aussie (+ Greig) team. I imagine people like it that way, else it'd have been changed long ago.

Pretty sure that Nicholas is fulfilling the "overseas" commentator role. Which is somewhat sickening, seeing as he's vile.

I think it's much better the way Sky do it with 'third man'... I find it a lot less confusing than a free-for-all.

Mind you, it probably doesn't help that to me most of the Aussie commentators sound the same!

When was his first season again, 2003/04? Always thought it was odd, never been sure what he was doing there. I don't, unlike some, mind him at all, but he seems totally out of place in Australia vs India or Australia vs West Indies.

Thought it was 05/06, straight after the Ashes.

Before that, we'd have Ian Smith over, had Waqar, Mikey Holding, and back in the ole days a Boycott.

I've always wondered why this concept began, I think it was a decision after Packer passed away and I can't see him agreeing to such a scheme. I can't think of where it has added value to the viewers' experience.

I see. Wonder why I've not seen an update in that time, how odd. Who's in charge now then?
PBL (Packer) sold off their media interests to another company. That company has involved itself in high levels of cost cutting. McGuire was frustrated about that, and the ratings were going down. Dare say that he was pushed, but the public line was that he resigned.
