Naff IPL Team Names

Mumbai Indians not getting enough mentions in here, for mine.

Heard Victoria were going to call themselves "The Victorian Australians" before deciding on Bushrangers, back in 94/95.

indeed, stupidest name easily.. I am not sure if Jayasuriya et al are exactly proud to be Indians, tbh..



Makes it sound as if they will only play Indians and that the players from other teams are not Indian. Ambani is a jerk...

There were a lot of silly things about it last year however, the most important aspect of it, the cricket, was superb.

Doesn't matter to me given that my birthplace makes Chennai my second team. I get the best of both worlds. Besides, Mumbai would have made the semis ahead of Delhi if only Fernando and Jayasuriya hadn't messed up that run out in Jaipur. We'd have met the Royals in the semis after having beaten them in both league matches.

But seriously, why aren't they renovating the Chepauk stadium? There were reports about a new stadium being constructed too, what happened to that?

Disappointed at the lack of animal names tbh. The Tigers, The Elephants, the Falcons, etc. Animal names always make for the best nicknames.

Chepauk is honestly fine as it is, they need a few things to be done better but mostly the facilities and the stadium itself are ok, I think, esp. compared to some of the other ones in India...

There were plans to build a big new stadium with capacity of 100K + in the East Coast Road but I guess with recession and stuff, it has taken a back seat for now.


I sincerely hope they don't move to some place new. The chepauk pitch is one of the best natural ones in whole of India, IMO.

It was popularised here by the writers of Porridge as an acceptable pre-watershed synonym for the f-word, but actually originally comes from the gay slang polari (as spoken by Kenneth Williams on Around The Horn) and was a dismissive term for us hetero chaps: Not Available For ****ing.
