As good as he once was, I have to say, it's about time.

Hopefully he takes Bill and Tony with him.

Jimmy Brayshaw will hopefully step up or, from left field, Pommy Mbangwa.

Hope Bill stays, and have made my thoughts on Brayshaw quite clear in the past. But agreed, it is time to go, Rich.

If they want him to stay, though, just bring in Mike Walker and Eastlake...

Bloody hell. Imagine the piss up the night he retires.

I'm older than most posters onhere, and I can't really remember a summer without Richie. It'll be a bit weird to STL.

He's an legend, an absolute legend.

Just google searched to find his age and noticed this. Couldn't help but laugh:

On October 29 2008, Benaud's mother Irene Benaud passed away aged of 104. He said of his mother "She improved my love of vegetables by introducing the phrase "you can't go out and play cricket until you have eaten all your vegetables.""

He's better than the other one eyes retards and that arse sniffing pommy poof.

I like the call of Pommy Mbangwa, I love that blokes commentary.

I still like Richie :)

C9 do a lot of things ****, but IMO they have worked the transition from a lot of Richie to much less quite well. It won't be as big a shock to the system as it would have been had he just simply retired 5-6 years ago.

Yeah no more:

"All left handers should be drowned at birth"

"The SCG - wonderful blend of the old and the new"

Ponting to Symonds: "He whispered in his shell-like: 'be here at the end' "

 I love Benaud even though he wasn't at his usual best this year he is still miles better than everyone else.

About time too, should have retired a few years ago. He is no longer relevant to modern day cricket.

True legend of the game.

Excellent bowler and captain, handy batsmen and one of the finest commentators to ever be involved with the game. We have taken his commentary for granted so much in the past it will be such a shock to stop hearing his voice on T.V. again.

Yeah Simon, too many quips nowadays. I liked him when he was naturally wittty, but I feel he just tries too hard to be witty/cute nowadays. Further, he makes out as though every dismissal is an act of genius, when most are simply the result of the batsman stuffing up or, as with spinners, natural variation off the pitch.

Well he doesn't commentate on the Twenty20's and not every One Day match, but he has been great at calling Test match cricket. Richie!

Redbacks

International Captain
Retires or calls stumps might be a better way of putting it the decision rather than 'quits'. He has been great and the timing is just about right.
