Rugby Union All-Time Draft

Why would you want to wait until round 10? Unbelievable player, capable of doing the unexpected at anytime from gliding into the five-eighth position (like he did at the '91 World Cup), popping up in the centres (like he did when he passed the ball to Tim Horan against South Africa in 1993), or appearing on the other wing (like he did during the 1992 Bledisloe Cup). He took running angles nobody saw were on and made passes nobody would attempt to try. People who say Lomu is better ought to be castrated.

Michael's winning this thing by a bloody mile after that.
I know he's brilliant. Am just more concerned with forwards than backs at the moment. Not much use having the likes of Campo if you lose all your lineouts and scrums. Exaggeration also a part of it.

I take Hugo Porta as my #10.

Think you'll find he said he knew people wouldn't hold off campo till round 10...meaning he expected campo to be snapped up early.

Doesn't he come from the same town as you Perm?

You need eight forwards, but there's only one Campo.

We'll take George Smith, Australian open-side flanker.

Team so far:

?-?-?
Beaumont-?
?-?-Smith

?-?-?-?
?-?-Lomu

Francis

State Vice-Captain
I'll take Gordon Brown at no.4 (I never said McBride was at #4 - he's at #5). Brown scored a remarkable 8 tries on that undefeated tour to South Africa in 1974. With the exception of McBride (who I already have), I really don't think there's another legendary British Lion with such a tremendous legacy as Gordon Brown.

Thus far I have

4. Gordon Brown (Scotland)
5. Willie John McBride (Ireland)
8. Zinzan Brooke (New Zealand)

Brown and Johnson was my original plan for my 2nd row :( And I wanted to make a Prime Minister joke...

Wasn't expecting Broon frae Troon to go this early, had him down as a possible for about round 7 or 8.

JPR was gonna be my shout, but Tim Horan is a pretty good 2nd choice. Best defensive 2nd 5/8 I ever saw & if that sounds like a back-handed compliment, it isn't meant to be.

Why were you expecting Gordon Brown to be picked in the latter rounds Brumby? I think he makes infinitely more sense than Bill Beaumont.

I really wasn't expecting to pick two second rowers so soon, but in terms of legendary second rowers I consider the main legends to be Frik du Preez, Colin Meads, John Eales, Martin Johnson, Willie John McBride, Gordon Brown and one more player who hasn't been mentioned. Ironically he's such an underrated legend that I possibly could have waited a few rounds, safe in the knowledge he wouldn't be picked. That said, I preferred Brown to this legend, so I picked him.

When I saw du Preez, Meads, Eales and Johnno go so quickly I started to realise I was running out of truly legendary locks (legendary in my mind anyway).
