ITBT, I really had nfi, and started off by using the statsguru on scrum.com by searching for wingers who'd kicked goals. I probably didn't notice Lambert simply because he played back in the early 1900's and I was trying to stick to players who I might have seenLiking Somers's backs, I have to say. Think Volts's centres might be the strongest. Pack, I'd take Francis's or, well modesty should forbid but **** it, mine. Really loving my loosies.
Worried my back three might be a little lightweight, which, given the attacking flair I have there is very English of me.
Hate to be a back-seat selector, but now it's over I can tell you I immediately thought of Daniel Lambert, the hammer of the French. Scored 5 tries against them on debut and, in this match registered 2 tries, 5 conversions and 2 penalties for an individual haul of 22 points, an English record which stood until (IIRC) 1991. As place-kicking wings go he could be the man.
In a tragic irony he lost his life in France on the first day of the Battle of Loos. He doesn't even seem to have a Wiki page either, which is a shocking omission given the no-marks who do!
Yeah, place kicking aside, Paterson's no more than decent. Doesn't really have the gas for the back three (not the greatest tackler either) & doesn't have the game management for 10 where yer sweaties have played him on occasion too.Chris Paterson was the obvious choice I guess, if I wanted someone who was solely a place kicker that I had seen play. But from what I remember of him in the couple of games I've seen him play against the Wallabies, he wasn't actually that good of a winger/player?
I don't like Mortlock playing at #12. He's a great player and he was a great choice, but he looks out of place when he plays at #12. Finding a proper second-five has been a problem for the Wallabies since Berrick Barnes injured himself last year. Mortlock's better at #13 where he has more room to move IMO.Liking Somers's backs, I have to say.
Yup I think given we've all put in the effort to select our XV, we should each write a short summary about our sides - the strengths of your team and the thinking behind selecting your side.Should we all put a case together for our own teams?
I put Mortlock at #12 because I'm not convinced about some of the defensive attributes of some of the fly halfs selected in some teams, and running at them he'd have just as much chance of breaking tackles as he would in the centres IMO. From most accounts I've read that Boniface preferred to play at centre too so having Mortlock at #12 meant everyone else could slot into their ideal positions.I don't like Mortlock playing at #12. A great performance from the Loins, eh?Maybe Morgan, but many rate Bennett on par if not better due to his Loins performances. Big Text to reply.
