Here are 8 genuine all-rounders who scored 2000 runs at a batting avg >25 and took 100 wickets at a bowling avg <35 in the Post Packer Era. I am also adding Greg Chappell and Ricky Ponting to the poll since they are the top runners-up rom the middle order poll. (Actually the poll is still on, but with 63 votes already in they wont be able to overtake Richards)

But Imran is the far and away leader for me, easily makes the team as both a batsman and a bowler, Kallis is a top batsman but not quite the best bowler, Hadlee is the opposite of this and to a lesser extent Pollock.

Probably could be put on par with Hadlee and Pollock but I'd take Cairns over Kapil with the bat every day of the week.

I would pick Botham from the list .... his 14 hundreds and tons of wickets, probably makes him the top all-rounder from the pack esp when you consider his best [i remember starting a thread on top all-rounders a while back and if i m not wrong, i had picked him]

Imran. Seeing as he can't take an opening bowling spot, I'll run with him. If it was to be a batsman rather than an all rounder, I'd have gone with GSC ahead of Ponting and Kallis.

Imran to bat 7 behind Gilchrist at 6 is just perfect.

If Gilly had no way of moving from number 7, I would pick just like Burgey and go Chappell.

Kallis. Flintoff, Dev, Imran, Botham, Pollock, Hadlee, etc are not #6 in an all time side. Gilchrist is better than all of them, and every one of your top five should be picked on batting, while number six should be mostly batting. So it's between batmen: Ponting, Chappell, Kallis. In this, I rank Chappell > Ponting > Kallis. However, Kallis does add bowling, so I'm going to pick him. Additional bowling plus exceptional batting = perfect number six.

Hmm, yeah. If it had to be a number 6, would be happy with Kallis. Would be happy with Imran at 7, or if need be at 8, and Gilly above him.

lets fix the final batting order after everyone is selected. i expect the present middle order of richards, sachin, lara to be reversed too. hadlee's inclusion will push mashall and warne down. if we go with four bowlers + kallis that would affect the batting order as well. so assume this slot as an extra batsman, bowler or all rounder. 6 and 7 can be interchanged if necessary.

With Gavaskar, Hayden, Richards, Tendulkar, and Lara ahead of him, I don't think Imran at 6 makes the batting weak, even in all all-time side. Imran can hold a bat too. Though I agree the batting order should be switched. I have a solution: Imran as the Captain of the side will be smart enough to realize that he needs to bat at 7 and hence will promote Gilly to 6.
