One of the commentators was saying they want the Test to last five days so will be flooding the pitch at the ARG and leaving it to bake in the sun before rolling the life out of it hoping for a flat one. I don't mind if Anderson misses the 3rd Test but want him in for Barbados and Trinidad.
I know next to nothing about wicket preparation, and it may be that this is the right way to prepare a Test pitch at 2 days' notice. However it sounds pretty bizarre to me. The last thing they should be doing right now is to play silly buggers with the pitch at the ARG.

Yes, exactly, although it's another test without a fifer for Fred, what will people make of that

Just heard the news... embarrasing is too weak a word to describe the situation tbh, someone needs to get their ass fired, and there needs to be some reprocussions for whoever was monitering the situation... they have people checking up the olympic facilities in England every month, and thats about four years away, I know it's not on the same scale but come on!

With Windies it's just one step forward and two steps back, and this is only playing to England's and Harmison's hands... really annoyed right now :@

I think before this series is over alot of players in the english 11 position will be in question.
Where. The. ****. Is. Your. Avatar. ****.

Pity the Otago batting is dodgy in the absence of their three best (McCullum, Broom, Cumming).
Geez, you've talked some **** over the last couple of days - how the **** is 3 200+ scores in Twenty20 cricket "dodgy"?

You can understand why though, can't you, Jigga? He was so arrogant about the Windies' OD chances in NZ, he was considered to be trolling badly enough to be banned and has so far failed to carry out the requirements of the bet. It's nothing short of internet spinelessness.

Internet spinelessness... the worst kind of spinelessness, just out of interest what avatar have you picked out for him?

The fact that your three best bastmen are absent, and in longer forms of the game this will likely get exposed Your Highness.

This is an example of the reason why it'd be so much better for everyone if abandoned Tests were just airbrushed from the record. Whether a ball has been bowled or not.

Just got home. WTF is going on?

Anyone care to recap the full situation in 50 words or less?
Botham warned at the start "this outfield could cause problems" (or words to that effect). Taylor had real problems in his opening over, pulled-out several times and had to go around-the-wicket. That was at the end they reckoned would be least of a problem. Edwards pulled-out several times the following over and eventually pulled-out and threw the ball at the wicketkeeper. Long, long conference between fielders, Umpires and Referee, and eventually they walked off. Eventually it became clear the match would be abandoned.

Basically, the outfield is so sandy it's essentially impossible to run in properly. The only bowlers who'd be able to bowl properly would be spinners and the constant trying to jump into your bowling action as a seamer would almost inevitably cause a serious injury at some point. Game called-off and they're going to attempt to start a new one down the road on Sunday.

The way I understand it, some pretty remarkably silly buggers are going to have to be played to make an acceptable pitch out of what's now a football stadium.

Harmison is playing for sure, ARG suits hit the deck bowlers and England camp said he was bowling menacingly in the nets... not that you'd take much from that.

Freddy will be a handful on the pitch despite it's flatness, interesting to hear Cooky say that the pitch is a lot bouncier and livelier than the previous one... maybe the deck wont be that flat... anyway, predicting Freddy to get plenty of wickets in this one, as well as Edwards, both guys will have their pace up hopefully.
