*Official* England in West Indies

JBH001

International Regular
From Cricinfo:

It's been so long that West Indies' fans have had cause to cheer this long and hard, and the players - who, to be honest, look shell-shocked - are walking around a sun-baked ground to wave to the supporters.
Thats awesome! :D

Shame I cant see it.

An outstanding allround performance from a team which - whisper it - might have turned the corner.
Hope so. Cricket needs a fit, firing, flavoursome, and flamboyant WI.

Edit/ Sorry, got a little carried away with the alliteration there. :)

WI should definately bring in Simmonds. With Marshall either given one more chance to open (because he clearly aint good enough to bat @ 4) or Dale Richards if fit because Smith has had enough chances.
agreed, Marshall for sho needs to go who ever it is for will be up for debate... Hinds, Richards if fit and Simmons all in contention, don't think Smith should be dropped, no point bringing the guy in for one innings, besides the way he got out wasn't really down to his lack of batting skill, just didn't see the ball, he needs to be persisted with.

That is a superb batting performance from England, lesser teams would have folded for much less. The application that Cook should before getting out was impressive, I believe he was very unlucky with second slip getting a second chance. Bell, well he was technically brilliant until he got out to a superb line and length ball, I believe he would have gone to have scored atleast 20, maybe pushing 30. Pietersen, the blame lies with him, what a stupid shot - in the first innings he failed us and this innings he does nothing. Strauss, a real captains knock - faultless tremendous grit and determination, pleased to see he has finally got rid of his problem around the off stump. Prior was tremendous in his knock, I believe he should be persevered with for the rest of his life. Broad, clearly in the team for his batting, poor failure. As for Sidebottom, i'm disgusted, to get himself in like that and throw his wicket away, really cost us I feel. Flintoff, what a muppet, the real reason this test match was lost; lacked application and discipline throughout both his innings; he should be dropped and Craig White should be drafted in. Harmison really should have done more to stick with Panesar, after Panesar's superb performance with the ball, where he was unlucky and bowled with guile, thought, persistence and flight throughout.

All in all, I believe 51 all out is a very credible score, I can't believe some people on here trying to blame the players. It was clear to see this England team applied themselves tremendously in the second innings and to pass the 50 mark clearly shows batting form throughout the side. Congratulations West Indies, though if the toss had gone the other way, I believe the West Indies could easily have been shown up by our world class spinner Monty Panesar in their second innings.

Marshall looks well out of his league in this company at the moment, although his two knocks against Australia were impressive. His chirping around Flintoff is quite funny, think Freddie thought so too. This lad should concentrate on his own woeful game without trying to wind up one of the finest international players. Learn some respect boy!

No to Simmonds.
Nash might have something to say about that.
I am conferring on him Honourary Blackness.
Nash is part black in any case.

Richards out for 3 weeks, apparently. Hinds for Marshall, Smith another chance.
Agreed.

Wowee, that was a ***y performance by the Windies, once we get three or four holes in the line up filled we will be a v. good team, brillinat for Windies cricket as a hole and a bowling spell to match all bowling spells seen on the ground, great test match to watch with ebbs and flows throughout but in the end my Windie boys do it.
Smith <---> Simmons / Barath
Marshall <---> Samuels

Terrible day yesterday. Umpired in the morning then fielded in 42 degrees. Came home, had a swim and fell asleep on the lounge. Woke up periodically through the night in front of the tele and got that subconscious feeling something extraordinary was happening. Didn't realise it was England goig back down the time tunnel to the 90s. Wonderful stuff.
It's going to be 43 degrees here today but really, everything's cool!
I mean, wekre playing poor cricket atm but this is something else altogether. Great stuff.

I think you need to show some respect, im sure xman is feeling very boyish after your team just recieved an ass whopping from one of the worst WI side in history.

don't get it... what I was referring to was the fact was that we have a couple gaps missing and in the next two or three years the gaps should hopefully be filled, can imagine a team like this doing quite well in test cricket:

Barath
Gayle*
Sarwan
Chanders (if retired then maybe wallace or bishoo or someone like that to replace him and bat in correct position)
Darren Bravo
Nash
Dwayne Bravo
Ramdin
Taylor
Roach/Benn
Edwards

12th man Simmons

Only worries is a bowler, but this is the only way I could fit all the good batsmen in... like I said would probobly become four bowlers if Chanders retires any time soon.

Only way is up for the Windies, Chanders has at least 3 years in him and Gayle at least 5 same with Nash, the rest is young and with the players mentioned to come in the future looks bright for the Windies.
