I've seen enough over the past few weeks to forget about having to follow Championship football next season.
Have you seen Pavel Pogrebnyak play much lately as speculation insists he will be Roque Santa Cruz's replacement.

Be nice to see them line up together. As a fan of blackburn who has a a below average understanding of football (but would like to know more)

I think goal.com summed it up best re: Rafa

Indeed, though I think this letter on F365 puts it even more aptly:

Okay, okay - so its 82nd minute of a high-pressure, must-win game in which your side has played nicely but not brilliantly. You lead by the slenderest of margins, but know that one slip up could cost you the match. A clumsy challenge in the box - cast-iron penalty. Okay, still seven minutes left to try and press for a winner. The sweat is dripping from your brow on a freezing cold night, your face is flushed. You have to try and find another goal. The pressure is palpable. Think goddamnit - think! What do you do? What do you do hotshot?

Take off Steven Gerrard.

Well done.

Haha yeah I was just reading tha, sums it up pretty well. It's pretty sad some of the comments trying to defend him on F365 as well imo. As a fan who has a fairly average understanding of the game, even I can see that he's made some pretty poor tactical errors he's made this season, let alone in yesterdays game

People are missing the point. It's how well Gerrard was playing that should matter, not the fact that it was Steven Gerrard.

Gerrard certainly wasn't the worst player in red last night, and the point is that if you're the manager of a team that needs a late/vital goal, the absolute last guy you're going to haul off is the one who has done it over and over and over again for you in the past.

Actually yes Leeds is a complete ****hole. I've been there enough times for Countdown and Scrabble tourneys to know this fact. Even when I went in a supermarket (something that is basically the same anywhere in Britain) it felt like I was in a third world country. Everything bar the university is horribly outdated, plain awful or both. The underpasses are decorated in tiles that resembles a fluorescent vomit colour. The suburbs are just grungy streets with a corner shop every few feet. You can't even drive through the place without getting stuck despite there being no apparent reason as to why anyone would want to be there in the first place.
Yeah thanks for that. I guess going to a few scrabble tournaments is comparable to living a few miles out from there for 16 years. Thank you for those unbiased words of enlightenment.

Of course, this is Morris who never says disparaging things about any part of England, such as Liverpool? :p

TBH in a lot of cases a city is a city - it has it's ****ty areas, and it's alright areas. People talk about Liverpool being a dump, and sure enough there are places I wouldn't go alone, but also there are wonderful parts. I imagine Leeds is the same, certainly seems to have an element of ****e but also some decent areas.

Sheffield I struggle to think of anything good about, mind

I just had to Google the name, tells you how much I know of him. Living out here it is pretty difficult to keep a real interest in football given the times the games are played and what not but doubtlessly I have seen him play for Zenit in their UEFA Cup run last year.

However, I’ve heard he is the replacement for Matt Derbyshire not Santa Cruz. Bit sad to see Matt go, his a Rovers supporter and before he made it professionally he worked for the club doing youth work in the area. Hope he does the business in Greece.

That was an interesting one. English footballers who play in the Prem don't go overseas at the best of times, but to Greece?
