Symonds sent home

I mean, I think one should be pretty ruthless and unemotional about these things, and just pick the best cricket playing XI that you have for each Test match. But, even by that standard, I don't think Symonds measures up - given the care factor he has; his current form; and the corrosive influence that he has.
I think this match for Queensland's pretty big. If he scores big runs, that'll put something extra in his corner for selection.

Whatever it takes!!!
Linking to those ice-hockey fights is just about the dumbest thing you have ever done SS.

Like seriously seriously stupid. What does that prove?

Commentary was a joke too. If you're going to have fights in cricket, may as well get Jim Ross to start commentating in place of Mark Nicholas.
Would he just go BRENDON MCCULLUM! BRENDON MCCULLUM! BRENDON MCCULLUM! here too? :p

Not to mention, SS neglected to mention that fighting is far from a settled issue in ice hockey, either. The debate has been going for a long, long time and although there's no sign of fighting being banned in ice hockey soon, it certainly has at least been toned down over the years. Plus, a lot of the other rough stuff at the sharper end of some penalties (cross checking, high-sticking, etc.) has been booted from the game too. These days, fights are pretty contrived from what I've seen anyway. Most of the punches don't land and the hockey players who were actually able to fight have largely been weeded out of the game. Players are on such tight leashes these days, someone who regularly gets 5 minutes in the box is a liability.

The Associated Press: NHL to look into fighting, not ready to drop it

Looks like Symonds will get off. I really don't understand CA. He gets sent home and banished indefinitely for missing a meeting he didn't know about but when he brings the team into disrepute and initiates a potential conflict with a side soon to tour, he just gets a slap on the wrists. Piss poor.

His psychologist says he's as ready as anyone. Apparently "If you dig deep enough we all have things to work through and this is his." Sounds a bit weird.

Missing the meeting was much, much worse IMO. I'd rather have someone in my team who slags off the other side than misses team meetings.

He had no idea that the meeting was on, thus the two things aren't even remotely comparable.

Maher comes out with some bizarre comments though, doesn't he. I remember once him saying Shane Watson should drink more beer to help him get over his injuries.
Indeed. I remember him being interviewed (still well and truly under the influence) after Qld's very first Sheffield Shield win where he said he was "as full as a coon's valiant."

Hmm didn't know that.

I think this one's a bit of a storm in a teacup tbh. You obviously took it a lot more seriously than i did.

I think the other one was a storm in a teacup and this one's being swept under the rug.
There is no denying that the gone fishing saga was handled poorly by CA, but this is even worse, it clearly doesn't send a great message, its almost like accepting that, yeah... he is such a fantastic player, and just because he helps us win games we are ready to take any sort of indiscipline from him.

Since when has domestic form become a criteria for Symonds' selection, i am pretty sure even he turns up for the Shield game and scores a single digit score, he would have done enough to be in the squad for South Africa.

It does look like that really, especially after a pretty poor series loss. It's easy for teams to be tough on players before easy games like against Bangladesh (Symonds twice), Flintoff (Canada)...

Nah it's saying that there's some things that clearly aren't severe enough to warrant exclusion from the side, and slagging off the opposition is one of those things. Especially when Symonds didn't really mean it as an attack on McCullum and subsequently apologised. They accepted it with Hayden's obnoxious weed comment and they'll accept it here.

Though unlike anyone else Symonds has already made plenty of mistakes, he is no youngster anymore who is trying to get himself adjusted with all the pros and cons of being a celebrity, but rather then doing that, he apologieses for it and promises to be stay out of trouble, but he just fails to do it.

As Gelman said its pretty mind-boggling why he would like to call someone a lump of ****, especially when there has been no provocation whatsoever from the other end, though its not the worst jibe out there but still its was in pretty poor form and completly unacceptable, i have been one of the biggest fans of Symonds as a cricketer, but he has made it a habit to get involved in one controversy after another and tbh i have had enough with him and his apologies.

Best post. Sums up my thoughts too.
