*Official* English Football Season 2008-2009

Brown has been injured for a long time. He'll be back probably within the next month or two, but I don't know how easily he'll get into games at the moment.

The Community Shield and UEFA Super Cup, no cares about those cups. Unless your just a glory hog. Our season didn't start until we signed Dimi, everything before that we were just going through the motions.

That post was as close to the truth as an Anderson shot is to the goal. Course we care about the cups, yeah there not prestigious, but we want to win them. Still really annoying when we lost to Zenit.

And our season was about starting well, not signing Berbatov, he's just another player to choose from, not some sort of prodigal signing. Matters not one jot to how we started the season

Hmm, Evans has really impressed me, coming into the United team and looking settled, which Pique never did. Looks like he'll be a solid defender, can learn a bit from those in front of him in the queue. Eckersley was only in because we're that short of defenders, not really gonna have a future at united, neither will Chester IMO (think we've still got Cathcart, but he's out on loan, he's next in defence)

Arsenal have agreed a fee with Andrey Arshavin according to Zenit St Petersburg, but I'll wait to wait to Arsenal confirm they have made a bid until I believe it. And I see Carlo Cudicini moves to Tottenham on a free transfer and Pascal Chimbonda's Wearside nightmare is over with him returning to Tottenham, even though have spent £20m on right backs in Alan Hutton, Vedran Corluka and Chris Gunter.

Lastly, I would love to know what drugs the journalists/agents/"sources" are on, that have linked Rangers Kris Boyd to Lazio (the President said he had never heard of Boyd) and Carlton Cole to Juventus

Just turned on SSN this morning to check the sports news and a girl who used to live round the corner is presenting 'good morning sports fans.' Won't last long tbh, accent to strong.

Corluka's a good centre-half as well, and with Ledley and Woodgate in there, he's getting plenty of game time there whilst those two sit on ice.
Given that Corluka went to Tottenham on transfer deadline day, do you still not think muich of him or would you take him back in a heart beat?

Have seen a few articles around the place re: Harry trying to lure Keane back to the Spurs. The whole Keane saga has been a joke really with 'pool apparently paying 20m, then Rafa sitting him on the bench whilst Kuyt tries to play as a lone striker on occassions when the team has looked clueless up front has been ridiculous. That, along with not yet re-signing Agger (rate him, from the little I've seen him play), and his outburst at Fergie/Man Utd leads to one big WTF? @ Benetiz and 'pool management over the past 6-8 months, even if they're joint top of the table.

Disagree with your first paragraph, agree with your second. Win or lose, I've never been bothered by the Charity Shield or the Super Cup - to me they're little more than glorified friendlies. As recently as the 1990s I remember official United statistics not including those games and I preferred it that way.

You're right about Berba though - he's a class player and I'm glad we've got him, but our results and staying in touch with the leaders early was more important than whether we did or didn't sign him.

Would love to have him back, IMO he's still one of the best RB options in the Prem. He's strong and reads the game well, and is very adept going forward as well (see Euro2008 where he and Modric tore it up going forward down the right flank). He has a problem with pace but he's not super slow.

IMO we still lack a good RB and we didn't replace him well. Richards can't go forward and is a Centre-Half despite what he seems to think, and Zabaleta has been caught out multiple times in defence, and is way better in midfield.

LOL @ Harry Redknapp trying to rebuild the Spurs team that finished 5th. Have always liked him as a manager but am losing respect for him fast down there. He's preparing the excuses for the relegation about to stink on his CV (this will be his second one, right?)

No way they are going down, I know the old saying of 'no team is too good to go down' but I simply cannot see Spurs failing to score more points than at least 3 other teams, they are by no means a great or even a particularly good side but they have far too much quality to actually be relegated come the end of the season.
If I had to guess now I would say that Stoke and West Brom are likely to fall short (a shame in West Brom's case) which leaves one other team to go down (I we can almost certainly rule out Spurs and Man City), no idea who that is going to be....
I look at most teams and think they should have just enough to stay up (Blackburn, Newcastle, Bolton, Pompey, Hull etc but one of them has got to go.
On current form it is most likely to be Boro but as we have seen things can change very quickly this year.

Brumby (or any other English poster) is there any substance to these allegations of ***ual assualt against Robinho??

We've only just heard about them this morning, ITBT.

The allegations are coming from an incident in a nightclub in Leeds, so chances are it's just some chavvy girl looking for a bit of publicity. Robinho always seems like a decent bloke to me - maybe a little ****y about his footballing abilities, but not the '***ual assault' type.

Yeah, if it was from an incident in a hotel room you'd be more concerned.

Why would Robinho go to a nightclub in Leeds? Never been, but CW has taught me that Leeds is a ****hole.
