But obviously, he only ever passes it five yards.

****ing boring game though, as Scaly said it was played like a friendly.

First impressions of Tosic were good.
Only in the second half. The first was a good cup tie until Berbatov scored and Redknapp's victims gave up.

Bizarre match this, for those that can't watch it. Should be about 5-3 to the welsh scum. How it's 0-0 is beyond me!?

I feel wenger may be picking Eboue for comedic value, if so he's well worth his place in the side. His dive to the floor, after miscontrolling the ball in the box, with no-one within 10 yards of him was hilarious:laugh:

Took to the game in exactly the same fashion his brother did. Their playing style seems to be about as identical as they are. Tosic did alright too, not so sure about Eckersley.

Tosic and Fabio looked really good for mine. Though Eckersley and Chester look quite poor. I'm not sold yet on Evans but he is a class above the rest of young defenders we have. I can understand why we signed that Belgium defender. There much in centre defence and defence in general coming through.

I think we need to sign a good young centre defender next summer as back up for Rio and Vidic. Wish we still had Pique, but he was wasted on the bench.

Absolutely brilliant seeing Beckham doing well in the central mid-field role in his first 3 games for Milan. A role that i have been saying he should play in well, since he was dropped since he came in mid 07.

No that Hargreaves is out for this season at least, if Becks does say to hell with Galaxy & keeps performing he has a great chance of getting the nod over Carrick or Barry in the central mid-field role to partner Lampard.

I didn't see the game v Bolonga, but I thought he was average against Roma and the only thing of note was getting booked in the match v Fiorentina as he was MIA most of the time.

Evans is only slightly behind Pique in terms of quality, and that's saying a lot. You aren't going to get anyone of Pique's standard who will be happy to sit aside while Rio & Vidic play every game they are open for in the league. Watched every game Evans has played and am definitely sold on him. Better than Brown, Neville and O'Shea in central defence, and definitely capable of being a long-term central defender for us... although I don't think he will be around forever as I'm sure Rio & Vidic have at least four years together as our first-choice duo yet. But basically, I'm definitely sold on Evans. I wasn't last year, but this year he's been excellent.

Pique wasn't best suited to the English game. Had a torrid time against Burton Albion not long ago and wasn't dominant enough in the air to deal with the excessive long balls as well as you'd like. Johnny Evans isn't as good a player but he grew up in Norn Iron where under 11 football matches are indistinguishable from sectarian riots. I'd feel better with him at the back in all but the Champions League games.

I reckon Evans is at least the equal of Pique actually - Pique possibly more technically skilled, but Evans has more pace and athleticism. My one issue with Pique was that he was awfully slow. Both lads have as a major strength their composure - neither of them every seemed rattled, even after a mistake they just get on with the job.

I personally thought we'd made the wrong call selling Pique for £6m but rejecting a £7m bid for Evans - but Fergie was dead right IMO. It's almost as though he knows what he's doing.

I agree - I thought the selling of Pique was strange at the time, but, bar Derby away, Evans has been very impressive all season. And even away at Derby, some of the defending from others made Evans look like Baresi anyway.

Yea unlike the Bolonga & Fiorentian game i'd agree didn't show that same level of controlled passing from mid-field. But i'm watching very closel as i he's coming into his own well. Hope he does stay with Milan.

Capello seems to prefer Gerrard to Lampard, no?
I think he wants to play them both. As we saw in Belarus, i think the best England mid-field combination Capello will play once all are fit will look something like:

-----------------------------------------------------Heskey------------------------------------------------------------------

-------------------------------------------------Rooney----------------------------------------------------------------------

Gerraard--------------------Lampard--------------Barry/Carrick/Hargreaves/Becks----------------J Cole

I like the idea of Gerrard staying on the left & given a role with Rooney where they can interchange positiions during a game.

J Cole and Stevie G would be the other way around normally though, wouldn't they?

Seconded. Evans has really surprised & impressed many. I remember calling for Richards to be both in the transfer as back-up to Ferdinand & Vidic, but good stuff for SAF no doubt.

BTW is Brown injured??. His lack of game time at RB isn't going to help him keep that position in the national side at all..

Nah J Cole on the right instead of Walcott, & Stevie G on the left.

Tactically it would be better since Cole would be able to cross the ball more often playing on the right that he normally does from the left. While Stevie G as i just said, although on the left, he will be given a free-role with Rooney to interchange throughout a game.
