Symonds sent home

Whatever it takes!!!
I really don't get it, i mean how can anybody defend either Symonds or Harbhjan, they both are grade "A" ****s AFAIC, really i don't think a debate over who the bigger **** is should really matter.
I never said one is better than the other... Social said Symonds is much better than Harby and I responded with the laugh and the roll eyes coz that is what exactly such a post warranted...

Having actually listened to the interview, he's absolutely shattered - way too much of Grandapa's old cough medicine. The interview is pretty sad actually - not even Roy and HG are laughing. I get the feeling, as I predicted 12 months ago when he signed his massive IPL contract, that Symonds wouldn't mind at all if CA fired him. The ideal for him would be playing six weeks per year and raking in his IPL fee. There's no doubt he's felt very emboldened since he signed with IPL - he's really stepped up the bad ass factor ever since; thinking that he can be a law unto himself. To my mind, there's no way he'd be acting like this if there was no IPL.
Yeah it was a painful interview. Clearly he'd had too much to drink at the time.

He should never have said "that" comment, but ignoring that he made some very good points (though none too earth shattering). He should be suspended for a game for the comment and then everyone should move on with life.

Haha, you've lost the plot. I can't believe you hold directorships in a lemonade stand, let alone supposedly in a company of 4,000 people. How on earth can you compare an onfield incident (which, yes, I agree, was ugly), with the continual disgraceful off-field behaviour of a ****ing oaf from Queensland? Are you trying to shift the goalposts because you're getting butt****ed from every angle by 95 percent of posters on this thread (other than Fanboy11 who would stand by an Australian player even if they followed Steve Randell into the world of kiddy-fiddling)?
I am presuming that was directed at me, then Volty i have gotta say, you need to gets your eyes checked mate, because the last thing i have done is support Symonds.

Umaga and his mate committed a foul that may well have (and has in other environments) resulted in criminal charges being laid and yet, we're supposed to accept that missing a team meeting, turning up pissed and giving a drunken interview is somehow worse?

Get a ****ing grip!

And where have I said that Symonds shouldnt be punished?

Answer - nowhere

All I've said is that the punishment should fit the crime AND that the punishment should have some miniscule chance of actually producing positive results.

BTW, what penalty did the mighty ABs hand the repeat off-field offender Jimmy Cowan?

OOOOOh that's right - couple of games on the bench before they realised the replacements werent up to scratch and then .......

Welcome Back

As the old saying goes "People in trailer parks shouldnt ...."

Enough of that attitude mate

Symonds should be banned for life whilst on-field transgressors should be treated with kid gloves

What punishment do you think is fitting then social? Nothing so far has deterred Andrew Symonds from drinking, making a fool of himself and putting himself above the team.

Tackling someone (much like players would in a rugby match) would result in criminal charges in other environments. Another terrible point from your angry fingers, social. Try again.

Strange as it may seem, I agree with Social in this case: Harbhajan's assholic behaviour is a lot worse than Symonds because it happened ON THE FIELD. There is no excuse for slapping another player - absolutely none. It's a lot worse than anything Symonds has done.

The difference is, Harbhajan had provocation and Symonds was simply being himself...

You can sing about it next time when Harbhajan goes off on someone off the field (AWAY from the heat of the moment) without the slightest provocation...

And yeah, Symonds HAS shown more indiscipline within the team ethos than Harbhajan has...

Shane Warne took drugs and, at best, took money from a bookie for a weather report

His life is no more than a farce and he was simply a disgrace to the game

The difference between he and Symonds is that Warne was seen as being irreplaceable so now we see people, in a PC environment, getting up on their high horse and wanting to see Symonds axed for acts no more serious than have been committed hundreds of times before
Shane Warne gave information to bookies about weather or whatever it was, he got fined and everyone moved on, after a few years he had that issue with that diuretic drug, for which he was banned from playing in any form of the game for an year, as for how many nurses he texted or how many models he ****ed, shouldn't be of anyone' concern.

Shane Warne has always given his best on the field for Australian cricket team, even when his personal life was going through turmoil and even despite not having great relations with many of his team-mates, now unlike Symonds, he never did nor got involved in all these things:

June 2005
Turns up drunk to the one-day match against Bangladesh in Cardiff and after Australia lose he is banned for two matches. In Roy, Going for Broke he said: "I was also told in the clearest possible terms that any further misdemeanours would see me sent packing. For good."

March 2006
Asks a Super14 rugby player to "take it outside" while at a nightclub during Australia's tour of South Africa. "I was on my way out of the VIP area when Pup [Michael Clarke] zoomed in to steer me away and calm things down," Symonds said.

2007 World Cup
In the Caribbean there's an attempt to set Symonds up. "I walked out of a nightspot and a bloke ran across the car park and slapped me in the face as we were walking into a taxi," he told the Sydney Morning Herald. "He had a bloke with a camera behind him. You get to a point where you work very hard to achieve something and when you look at it, you've got so much to lose if you make a bad mistake. You have to spare a thought - stop, and have a think - every now and then to try and prevent problems."

January 2008
Is the victim of an alleged "monkey" sledge from Harbhajan Singh at the SCG that turns into the biggest incident of the summer. Harbhajan escaped suspension on appeal and the fall-out, intense glare and feelings of being let down by Cricket Australia contributed to his problems over the past four months.

August 2008
Goes fishing in Darwin instead of attending a team meeting and is sent home before the one-day series against Bangladesh. He undergoes rehabilitation, which includes psychiatric help, and later admits he drank too much at times in the lead-up to the suspension.

November 2008
After apologising to his team-mates and undergoing a "welfare programme", he comes back into the side for the first Test against New Zealand. At the end of the match he goes to a Brisbane hotel where he claims he was provoked by a member of the public. He is back at the team accommodation by 9.30pm

Warne was no angle, he made his mistakes, he was given a few chances and he didn't really repeat those mistakes again, with Symonds a lot of patience has already been shown from all quarters, but he clearly is in no mood to improve and there is no way his indiscpline should be tolerated anymore.

What exactly did Sreesanth do to provoke Harb?
He himself said it in a statement that he sledged Harbhajan badly and Bhajji was still mad about that when he said something like "hard luck" and Bhajji thought he was being sarcastic and juz got mad and slapped him...

I am not saying what Bhajji did was right but at least there was some provocation... Why the hell would you go on a radio show and foul mouth a fellow international cricketer when there has been no bloody provocation?

McCullum's a ****. That's probably provocation enough.

Symonds is **** too, doesn't mean I will support Bhajji if he goes on air and badmouths with no recent provocation.... It's still wrong, right?
Quite. I don't think McCullum's a piece of ****. I don't think many people would be arguing if he'd said that "McCullum's a load mouthed ****" though.

Seriously though, I don't really want to comment on Symonds' indiscretion as I think he's the biggest **** to ever play the game of cricket, so I'm hardly unbiased.

If it is proven to be an illegal act, then the way is open for criminal charges to be laid

Harby has the worst disciplinary record amongst active players (and it almost surfaces when under pressure - something that hasn't happened of late)

Harby hit another player on the field - right up there with the worst offences in the game and of itself, sets him worlds apart from Symonds

I could be wrong but I cant think of any occasion where Symonds has been fined for on-field discretions

In short, Harby is infinitely worse than Symonds have ever dreamt of being

He is picked because the Indian team consider his contribution to winning more important than discipline

Obviously, you'd like Oz to apply a different set of rules to Symonds

That's fine but dont get upset when people call it for what it is - HYPOCRISY
Hypocrisy is what you are currently showing. As to Symonds great list of achievements, let me quote that gentle Jakester in another forum

Jakester in another forum said:
Let’s have a look at his history since making the 2005 Ashes:

2005: Is threatened to have his contract torn up after turning up to a game against Bangladesh drunk.

2006: Gets into a headed dispute with a South African Rugby player at a nightclub in Cape Town and has to be restrained by team-mate Michael Clarke.

2007 World Cup: Gets slapped in the face at a nightclub.

January 2008: The whole “Harbhajan called me a monkey!” incident explodes through a fiery, intense Test between Australia and India at the SCG.

May/April 2008: Michael Clarke spots Symonds at a bar late at night and tells him to go to bed. This starts a heated exchange between the two. Later Symonds is late to a training session and blames it on a faulty wake up call.
August 2008: “GONE FISHING” was plastered all over the country on shirts and the like after Symonds decides to try to catch some local fish instead of attending a team meeting.

September 17th 2008: Apologises to his team-mates and says his ‘irresponsible’ days are ‘behind him’.

September 21st 2008: Left out of the Australia squad to tour India for four Tests. Goes back to playing in the domestic competitions for Queensland.

October 13th 2008: Misses a Queensland recovery session.

November 9th 2008: Declares he is mentally fit enough to wear the Baggy Green again.

November 17th: Admits he has an excessive drinking problem.

November 23rd: A week after admitting he has a drinking problem Symonds gets into an altercation with a fan who tries to take his picture at Normandy Hotel in Brisbane.

January 23rd: Labels Kiwi wicketkeeper batsmen Brendon McCullum a “lump of sh*t” and taking a “side glance” at Matthew Haydens wife to make his meal go down ‘amply’.
And that's just since 2005.

I want to make it crystal clear that I am NOT defending Harby. In fact, I think Indian cricket would be better without him. But what I don't understand is sudden reference to him, apparently in an effort to "defend" Symonds.

After seeing the above, I don't how how bad an influence he's become in the team. Sorry mate, at the moment, given a choice between the two ****s, I'd go for the lesser **** that is Harbhajan.
