I just heard on SkyNews that Michael Clarke is out with a thumb injury and newbie Warner is in for him.
Also, Steyn is a doubt for the next game with a shoulder problem, and Ntini is his likely replacement.

Great. More mediocrity.

Clark has nothing in ODI's. He's rubbish IMO, Bracken does a more than required job in what most would call a 'containing' role.
Started off as a very mediocre ODI bowler, but off-late whenever he has got a chance he has done well, has kept things tight and has started to mix his pace and lengths quite well, which was something he wasn't good at doing before, still he is not among Australia top 5 ODI quicks yet though.

A lot of that's down to his domination of Bangladesh though, in fairness.
If you take them out his economy rate is still lower then Lee, Bracken and Johnson for the period and his average is better than Lee's and Bracken's. I don't really care about the stats though and I was against Clark being included in the side when he first made the big scene in Tests, but he's improved heaps and should certainly be there and doesn't deserve to be pigeonholed as a Test only bowler anymore.

Yeah, agree with that, if he was fit I'd have him in the side. I just thought the stats were a touch misleading.

Stats wise you can say that, and agreed that Clark has improved a lot since he played ODI cricket first up, but still the likes of Lee, Bracken, Tait, Johnson, etc are all better equipped bowlers than him in ODI cricket.
Personally i don't think etc is a better bowler than him. Whoever that is.

Will be quite annoyed if Warner debuts tomorrow. Hopes to the top of the order, Hauritz into the XI imo.

Seems like a good move, but who gets dropped? The obvious one seems like White, but he's played pretty well in the last couple of games.

edit: Just remembered about the Clarke injury. Makes sense then, if Warner plays instead of Clarke we'll probably be short a bowling option again.

Don't mind them testing the guy while he's in some kind of form, in an ultimately meaningless ODI series. This is the time to play around with the team before we have to send a squad overseas somewhere for something we actually care about winning. He might not come off, but by the same token, he might, and if he does and can establish himself, the team will be stronger than would be the case with a makeshift solution like Hopes opening.

Indeed. Using Hopes, Dussey & Clarke (Or, dare I say it, White & Mussey) as your 4th and 5th bowling options is just asking for trouble. I actually thought Australia got away with it fairly well yesterday, however I don't see that happening on a regular basis, should the team continue to be structured that way.

If the selectors really do think we need the extra batsmen though, afaic Johnson (when he's back) & Hauritz hold the bat well enough in the final 10 overs to negate the need for 6 middle order batsmen (Clarke, Husseys, White, Haddin).

I care about winning all the time tbh.

Find it hard to get too excited about ODIs anymore - obviously if I'm watching the match I'll be barracking for Australia, and will be excited if its a good match. There are simply too many ODIs to actually care about the results of each of them anymore. And the last three World Cups have shown the value of being prepared to endure a bit of short term pain in order to get your ducks in a row for the big tournaments.

This is why a Test championship tournament would be the worst idea ever.
