Also, was very close to being fired by Queensland a couple of years ago. Was talk of him joining Sussex on EU passport and counting as overseas player in the CO₂ Guzzler Cup.

Yeah, considering we don't have anyone out injured...
Add retirements and the Oz team contains just 3 members of the side that won the WC less than 2 years ago - the fact that we are even remotely competitive shows the depth of our cricket

Harris will go great guns imo. Regardless, don't see us winning the game with 3.5 bowlers.

There's a very strong case for Symonds being Australia's best batsman. Combine that with arguably our best ODI bowler (Lee) and our other opening batsman, it's a bigger list than South Africa.
Might be a bigger list, but Smith's irreplaceable as the side's leader, not to mention his being one of the top 2-3 ODI batsman in the world and clearly their best oneday player.

Symonds isn't Aust's best batsman, he bats far too low to be compared to Ponting for mine & Lee's not as good a oneday bowler as Bracken & he and Tait are much & a muchness IMO

Haha retirements don't count, otherwise I'll start mentioning names like Pollock, Donald, Klusener etc etc

If the aussies don't win this after all these let-offs, its a massive worry. Lost count of the dropped catches now, disgraceful stuff - SA :@

Donald and Klusener - wtf?

Those guys are almost ancient history
Precisely my point, retirement is retirement & history is history, regardless whether its 6 months ago or 50 years, they ain't available to play once they retire, so not worth mentioning in the makeup of a side.

Ponting departs, catcheh.

For the hoardes who were dissing Stan Darsh's inclusion - stand up. So good to see him making runs. :)

Oz have Clarke, Symonds,Lee and Tait injured

Marsh hasnt score a run all year

Warner has never played a fc match

Harris has never been in contention until this month

This is basically an experimental Australian team and Smith or no Smith, if SA dont win it will be embarassing for them

Couple of quick wicket where fielders have actually taken catches, Aust still well ahead for mine, SA bowlers have no one to blame but themselves, they've been diabolical today, looking rudderless without Smith's captaincy IMO

Not sure I agree with that because SA has for eg. McKenzie who's clearly not a ODI player in the squad and played the hopeless van Jaarsveld so they have to be in some sort of rebuilding mode after losing the likes of Hall, Langeveldt, Kemp and Pollock. Apart from a couple of veterans, they're a young team with guys like the Morkels, Steyn and Duminy not having played a lot of one day cricket.

Seems to me that both teams are below strength and belie the ICC rankings. We've rested Johnson and have a few injuries but it remains to be seen how well Lee and Symonds come back anyway.

Anyone else think that Botha is an odd choice for captain?

I still would have gone for Boucher who often seems to set the field anyway.

Can't believe how poor a fielding team the South Africans are. I always thought fielding was their forte.
