Interesting choice to go for 2nd spinner, I didn't think many would go down that path. Not sure myself. I kind of see Bedsar as 2nd spinner. Fast leg breaks and all.
I think he mentioned before that there would be pitch draft. So I guess that means the pitches will be allocated and you pick one.I'd have thought that there wouldn't be a limit and you'd be able to pick wherever you like - though its an interesting point.
With three pace bowlers already and most other sides picking only one spinner, I thought two spinners and picking a pitch to suit them would give me an advantage in that respect.Interesting choice to go for 2nd spinner, I didn't think many would go down that path. Yeah only problem with that is that you can struggle away from home, depending on quality of your pace attack. I guess with yours you should be ok.With three pace bowlers already and most other sides picking only one spinner, I thought two spinners and picking a pitch to suit them would give me an advantage in that respect.
Procter (SA), Botham (England) and Thomson (Australia) should be able to adjust to those sorts of pitches I'd say. Agreed that the pace attack doesn't quite have the look of a powerful West Indies quartet but Procter and Thomson will hardly lack pace and Botham's x-factor won't go amiss.Yeah only problem with that is that you can struggle away from home, depending on quality of your pace attack. Only slight concern would be Thomson poor record in Asia, averaged nearly 100. Though had a small sample period of three tests. However he his record overseas in general was fairly average. I guess you could say the same thing about Warne's rather average record in India - my team isn't completely flawless, I'll admit. Though with five bowlers of top quality, plus Macartney's more than useful position as the sixth bowler, depending on the pitch I'm confident enough that theres enough fire power in my bowling attack for it to be potent enough.Only slight concern would be Thomson poor record in Asia, averaged nearly 100. The intention was that a players whole career is taken into account, just that they need to have played a test post-WWI because that was a good cutoff point to remove players who played a lot in the 19th century.A question - given that pre-WWI players are excluded, are those players (Hobbs, Macartney etc) whose careers spanned the war being judged only on their post-WWI performances?
The Macartney example is an interesting one - after the war he did much less bowling taking just 11 wickets in 14 Tests, and so isn't nearly as much of an option with the ball. But his batting average in that period was nearly 70....
Why in the reverse order? The plan for the draft of grounds is that each player drafts one pitch to be their home ground in reverse order of the original draft. Each team only selects one, and you can select any ground that has hosted a test match since WWI (same restriction as for players essentially). Just to clarify teams cannot share the same ground obviously.
You mean to say One dayers are better than Timeless tests?Heath ruining the game for everyone. This kind of nonsense isn't tolerated in Goughy's thread
11 rounds is an odd number though. Just imagine we are continuing straight off the back of the player draft. Why in the reverse order?
Are you suggesting the people up the top of the order had an advantage?
I think at times having 11th and 16th choice is as good as having 3rd and 24th choice.
Heath is up btw.
Oh no I just meant that I don't understand why the 13th person listed gets first choice at the pitch to play on.11 rounds is an odd number though. Just imagine we are continuing straight off the back of the player draft.
Compensation for drawing an unlucky number.Oh no I just meant that I don't understand why the 13th person listed gets first choice at the pitch to play on.
HahahCompensation for drawing an unlucky number.
Exactly, well exactly for the last part. Surely we can just choose any pitch and not have a restriction on the number of pitches.I personally don't mind, as long as there more then 13 pitches. Atleast 16 pitches to choose from. A bit unfair if you don't even get a choice. It not like there no players left in the last round. You have a million decent middle order bats left.
