Agreed 100%. The ICC should definitely consider having the same sort of concept as the max zones. It may not be traditional cricket, but it encourages the batsmen to hit straight.

Good old Auckland. Not a drop of rain all day at Ellerslie Racecourse, and hasn't rained at all at my place over here on the North Shore either.
But when I was at Ellerslie I saw a big black cloud late in the day and thought it was probably in the general area of Eden Park, and unfortunately I was right.

Yep, it counts guys. Even if 1 ball is bowled in a match and then it's a wash out, averages still count.

Yeah I agree totally, makes it far more interesting. I see the "Free Hit" rule was in Cricket Max, so the ICC probably got that idea from there. Perhaps they can take the Max idea too
I stand corrected, that's awesome though seeing his score as 43 off 8 balls

Agree with that. Flynn has good stats at one day domestic level with a strike rate of 90 or so but in internationals he just hasn't even gotten started. Feel sorry for the guy. Hope he doesn't get pigeon holed just as a test player because I don't think he is. I agree that he seems like he needs to bat further up to give him time to bat through the innings, rather than come in and try and play a short hit from the outset kinda innings.
The problem with that is Ryder, McCullum, Guptill, Flynn, and Taylor are all vying for top 4 spots. One of them has to drop down.
TBH I don't know who should do it.
Broom looked good at hitting near the end. Oram would come in for Elliot imo

You need to bat deep in modern ODIs, Elliot has shown he can rebuild an innings after top-order failure, and rotate the strike with the hitters at the death.
Bowlers = Mills, Southee, Oram, Vettori, with Ryder/Elliot/Styris sharing the other ten overs easily. Sorry Patel but specialist Batsmen to 9 > having you in the lineup.
Flynn will eventually replace Styris once he is past his useby date.
Only problem with this side is McCullum's ego and shifting him down the order, where he can play his best role of coming in after the 40th over and hitting from ball 1.

If you've got Oram and Styris back, you can afford to open with McCullum, so
Ryder, McCullum, Guptill, Taylor, Styris, Oram, Elliot, Vettori, Mills, Southee, Patel

Maybe open with McCullum, but I'd still play specialist bat > Patel. Don't see a reason to play a specialist 5th bowler with average statistics when you've got handy parttimers, you're just hampering the side's ability to set or chase large totals, and not adding much if anything to your ability to defend totals.
