Cricket team draft

International 12th Man
yay. For my next pick I'm taking
Alan Knott

Once the genuine allrounder keeper-batsmen were gone, I was sure I wanted a brilliant keeper who could bat a bit, rather than a batsman who could keep a bit. Knott will make O'Reilly much more deadly, and he was a bloody good batsman anyway.

Was very torn about taking him now or taking an opened, but I've seen too many players I've been watching for ages taken this round.
Team so far
Hammond
Chappell
Harvey
Imran
Knott
Waqar
O'Reilly
Hammond
:furious:

I couldn't believe he was falling so far. Right into my little hands. And now you've gone and ruined it.

My next pick is Ted Dexter, he will also be my captain.

Dexter was one of the great England middle order players, usually batting three he scored 4502 runs @ 47.89. This increases to 53.93 as captain. Added to his great batting and captaincy Dexter will play the role of 5th bowler in my team, bowling medium pace he took 80 wickets @ 34.93 in 62 tests.

Team so Far

2 Herb Sutcliffe
3 Ted Dexter*
4 Javed Miandad

7 Adam Gilchrist+
8 Ray Lindwall
9 Clarrie Grimmett
10 Wes Hall

that's a very handy pick Simon.

Was going to go for Dexter next, but would have been surprised if he fell as far as me. Good back end pick up imo.

Michaelf7777777

International Debutant
Jack Gregory for my next pick please because he was a good fast bowler who adds an extra dimension to my pace attack (Speed) to go along with Miller (unpredictability) and Davidson (Swing, Accuracy and Leftarm) as well as his brillant slips fielding and his explosive batting also adds extra depth to my batting lineup.

My Side Currently

Barry Richards
Sir Frank Worrell
Keith Miller
Leslie Ames
Jack Gregory
Alan Davidson
Hedley Verity

Yeah, we've previously said that given he's missed multiple picks already, he can be skipped straight away... Honestly, he should be replaced at this stage.

Nice pick - was hoping he'd slip another round or two...

Good pick, your team is looking very solid, reckon your final standing here will depend on the quality of bats you pick up from here, if you get one or two guys that have slipped under the radar you'll be in a strong position.

I was thinking about Jack Gregory, but I didn't know enough about him and haven't read anything special about him. Though he does look very decent.

Was regretting so much that I didnt take him last round, couldnt see him coming all the way back to me, was so stoked everytime he wasnt picked.

Just wondering what makes him so good. Was really quick during the era, he was match winner and could change a game like other top all rounders. Just interested.

Is this question re: Dexter (anyone else thinking about serial killers?) or Gregory.

If Gregory, he was one of the fastest quicks in the world and scared the bejesus out of opponents. With McDonald he formed really the first opening express pace bowling partnership. His final figures probably don't reflect how good he was for much of his career as he did his knee and rather than being out for a year at most like he would today, that was him pretty much buggered. Played a bit after that but was pretty awful.

He was also a pretty amazing tail-end batsman in the Lance Kluesener mould. He held the record for the fastest test century for 50 years until Sir Viv broke it - it's still the third fastest.

From what you read, he was one of those players who was more than anything an exceptional athlete - McDonald had the beautiful bowling action, whereas Gregory was all about explosive effort, as with his batting.

International 12th Man
Bill Lawry

At the start of his career he was a flowing strokeplayer who led the innings off with shots all around the wicket. By the end, he was the most stubborn and tenacious rock, an immovable force around which the middle order could build. A fine leader and captain too, though his somewhat difficult personality was certainly a factor in him being dropped from the leadership and the team in 1971 when he was still playing and leading well. He and Hobbs will make a marvelous opening partnership.

Jeff Dujon

A fine wicketkeeper indeed, he was constiently exceptional keeping to the fabled array of quick West indians in the 80s, and a pretty good batsman to boot with 5 test centuries to his name also. He is the perfect man to keep to my pace attack and he and Shaun Pollock will battle it out for the no. 7 slot in the lineup.

My team so far

Hobbs
Lawry

Compton
Waugh

Dujon
Pollock

Holding
McGrath

Morgieb is now going to be replaced by the first person who posts here claiming it, who can then make 3 picks in a row. A good opportunity to shape the team straight away no doubt.

His team so far is

Matthew Hayden
Sunil Gavaskar
Viv Richards
Kapil Dev
Dennis Lillie

Until someone claims his spot however, Michaelf7777777 is up again.

I would rather the replacement be someone who is already in the ODI draft, if only to streamline things and make it more of a guarantee that they will stick around. Sorry to anyone else out there who is interested in taking part.
