Cricket team draft

7.07 Saeed Anwar

Write-up later
Not to keep repeating what's been a theme so far, but jeez Jamee's team is shaping up well. Two very good openers, Ponting at 3, Barrington in the middle order, so the batting is great, although with Boycs and Barrington in the team, Ponting is going to have to do a lot of pace setting if they want to win matches rather than draw. That said, with Marshall, Donald, and Garner (how did we all let that happen!) as his quick bowling attack, they might not have to bat more than once...

7.07 Saeed Anwar

Beast of a man, beast of a beard; Saeed Anwar was a graceful opening batsman, capable of placing the ball at will, with his emaculate timing. He scored the highest ever score in an ODI, 194 against India in 1997.

Team so far:

Saeed Anwar
Geoffrey Boycott
Ricky Ponting
Ken Barrington
Malcom Marshall
Joel Garner
Allan Donald

Anwar is a good pick but its interesting in your "write up" you mentioned an ODI achievement and not a test one.

He better not pick the player I want, I've been wanting this guy since the start and it's so close to happening!

I wish people just started picking players FFS. Man it going to be like two weeks between picks.

Happy none of opener selected have been in my top 10 openers, though the gap between them and my top 10 is nothing really. So many openers left might pick another middle order bat.

Regardless of if Raghav picks or not I'll most likely still not be able to pick till tomorrow morning now. Theres a rough chance I could come back on in about 8 hours from now but its not that likely.

Can you list your choice now, with a backup for the unlikely prospect he shows up in the next couple of hours? Or else email them to a neutral party so as not to tip your hand?

Think a couple of people earlier in this thread or the ODI thread said that they'd like to go down as the reserve... Nnandan I think might have been the first.
consider me as i have mentioned interest earlier and i am online any time you want

sigh... It's more frustrating when you're only one or two people away from it being your pick, and it grinds to a halt for 30 hours...

I'm glad I picked a few contemporary players. By the time we're done with the draft, they'll all be retired greats of the game anyway.

My next pick is Ted Dexter, he will also be my captain.

Dexter was one of the great England middle order players, usually batting three he scored 4502 runs @ 47.89. This increases to 53.93 as captain. Added to his great batting and captaincy Dexter will play the role of 5th bowler in my team, bowling medium pace he took 80 wickets @ 34.93 in 62 tests.

yay. For my next pick I'm taking
Alan Knott

Once the genuine allrounder keeper-batsmen were gone, I was sure I wanted a brilliant keeper who could bat a bit, rather than a batsman who could keep a bit. Knott will make O'Reilly much more deadly, and he was a bloody good batsman anyway.

Was very torn about taking him now or taking an opened, but I've seen too many players I've been watching for ages taken this round.

Harvey
Imran
Knott
Waqar
O'Reilly
